This made me laugh, and then I thought of Bedlam.

Graffiti village name change plan

Residents living in a graffiti-plagued village on Merseyside are being asked to consider changing its name to tackle vandals who alter signs in the village.

Lunt, which dates back to Medieval times, has been repeatedly targeted by vandals who change the "L" to a "C".

However, the proposal to change the name has split the village with some residents insisting the vandals should not be allowed to ruin their heritage.

One suggestion is to change it to Launt which would be pronounced the same.

However, despite the dismay that the vandalism causes, some villagers are defiant at the thought of giving in to the vandals.

Standing firm

Parish councillor Steward Dobson, 84, said: "This village is very, very old and people don't want the name changed.

"The vandalism has been done for years, it's not children who are doing it."

David Roughley, whose family has farmed in Lunt since 1851, added: "At the end of the day we live in Lunt and we don't want to change because of a few yobs.

"It is the vandals who should change, not the village." According to the local website, the area was first documented in 1251 in the Chartulary of Cockersand Abbey where it was referred to as "de Lund".

There's a story about Scunthorpe County Council which may or may not be true.

Many years ago, IT wizzards installed a profanity filter in their email server. It apparently took them 2 weeks to determine why no-one at all was receiving email.

It's now called "North Lincolnshire County Council".

True about scunthorpe! For ages aol users couldn't access anything with scunthorpe in it!

I know this place Lunt, I can't recall ever seeing any rude graffiti there, but I suppose I don't live there.

And I agree, still funny though!

^ Never knew that!

Have to admit, took a few moments for it to register why it was being blocked...

Yeah, they had to make there blocker less stringent. For a while you couldn't access any sites that had the slightest hint of anything in them! A friend of mine in Ireland breeds horses and I couldn't access his web-site, seems it was the word 'stud' amongst others that got blocked. Didn't last for too long though and they got it sorted.

Why has my thread been hijacked by Scunthorpe??

You bunch of Lunts :D

:o:D:D

Sorry; guilty as charged.

Okay, Slunthorpe then!

See post No. 2 Tiggs... :o

Doh, my roofreading skills are crap. I read 'Scunthorpe' in your post! Sorry!

Oooh, you're a one...

:o

Thanks micky. I am serious about my proof reading skills. My eyes just see what they want to be there.

Look, you can tell me; was "roofreading" deliberate? :D

Er, no! I didn't notice that! Oh the shame! :o
