Featured Replies

Hi there.

I was just thinking about the law of citizenship for the children of legal Aliens residing in thailand.Legal Alien means Aliens holding PR.If only 1 parent is holding PR and the other is not,What will be the nationality of the child? Will the child be given thai nationality? My second question is,What If a person has children (non thai less than 5 years of age) already and later he gets PR at Thailand. What will happen to the Children?I think in this case,He will have to apply PR for them as well?or Thai nationality will be give to his children?

As I understand it, the child of both parents being legal aliens, could claim Thai nationality. I am sorry, but the part about children of PR's I don't know the answer. Hopefully, others will know.

It always used to be the case that BOTH parents needed to have PR in order for the child to have any chance at Thai nationaility (assuming one of the parents was not already Thai). As far as I'm aware, if only one of the parents has PR, that won't suffice - but I could well be wrong.

SM :o

from the look of the table on the website of the Thai embassy in Washington DC, you need both parents to be legal aliens (ie PR)
