I am considering buying a boat either a peed boat or similar. Fishing, chilling, going up and down the coast in Rayong / Samet etc. Do I need a license? If so, whats the prcedure?

When you say "buy a Thai boat captains license" is it just a case of handing cash over to someone, or does one need to pass any proficiency test?

Yes you need a license. my friend did it a few months ago in Samui no test, just handed over the cash.

When you register the boat at the local harbormaster you can arrange a license there. Don't attempt it before.

Anyone ele know of how this process can be attemted down pattaya way? Its nearer to home.

You need to find out where the nearest harbourmaster office is to you, and sunrise is correct don't bother doing this until you register your boat.

I must admit i am confused about this.

When i was a mere whippersnapper,and wanted to drive a car, i had to pass a test to obtain a full licence

Then, i in my latter years, i needed to prove so many hours flying time in order to get my pilots licence

What people appear to be saying here is....... just stump up a few thousand baht, and off ya go !!!!!
