Subway fare hike delayed to yearend

BANGKOK: -- Subway fares won't increase until the end of the year, Bangkok Metro says, in spite of the government giving permission for an immediate hike.

Managing director Dr Sombat Kitjalaksana says the company had been allowed to raise fares from July 3. That will be postponed until December 31 for one-way tickets, he says.

There will be a 24-per-cent discount for student cards and 50 per cent for senior citizens and children. The company hopes this will increase use by 4 per cent.
