Moneylenders attack Creditor

A 31-year-old Thai motorbike taxi driver was interviewed at the Soi 9 police station after being bashed by a group of six Thai men at the 93 pub on Third Road in South Pattaya. The man told officers he had borrowed 3,000 baht from a moneylender and had to pay 60 baht interest every day.

He had fallen behind in his payments and had been summoned to meet with the moneylender at the south Pattaya pub. When he arrived he claims he was set upon by the six Thai employees of the moneylender. Police called in the six alleged assailants and they apparently confessed to the assault and confirmed the man owed them money.

Police bailed the six men and they will appear in court on assault charges at a later date.

This guy's eye was bashed really badly - judging from the photo on PCN - he could quite easily have lost the sight from it. And his face looked badly bruised.

Why have Thailand's 'illustrious' BIB released these six thugs - on bail - so readily?

If a group of farangs had done this to a Thai - for whatever reason - you can be sure the BIB would have had them languishing in the cells until a sizeable pay-off had been agreed! (hundreds of thousands of baht)

Double standards. BIB - in league - with the moneylenders -

Aren't "Moneylenders" and creditors the same thing? I think it should read "Moneylenders attack debtor".

As the camel said, "Shut up jackass, I know what I'm doing."

I guess now they need to expand the grammar check to catch mistakes like, "Prostitute drugs and steals from hooker in hotel room" or "Songkran a Much Tamer Holiday than the Pattaya Water Festival."

That is a scary interest rate, 60B/day = 1800B/month on a 3000B loan. :o

I wonder how far behind he was to rate a beating?

Thats the standard rate on small amounts from such sources.............on larger amounts 100k+ baht the rate comes down to 50 satang per 100 baht borrowed per day.

I know the owner of the 93 club ........enough said.

What a bargain!...so the interest rate on a 100k loan is only 180% per annum (15,000 per month).

This is justice........Thai style.

What justice?

The bashing of the debtor or the release of his attackerd.

This is stupid ends-defeating thinking by the moneylender. The poor guy nay be off-work for a few days and thus get deeper in debt. Why not just station someone at the mo'cy driver's 'home base' and take 60baht off him (or even 100b) when he earns it.
