Worst Ever Cover Song

Featured Replies

Talking about Stairway to Heaven....does anybody know the Frank Zappa version as performed in 1988? Blows you away! The guitar solo spread over five horns, just monumental!

they did on this tour also I'm the Walrus which was quite impressive and a reggae version of Ravel's Bolero.

@ Phil Harris: absolutely disagree about Cocaine!! JJ Cale was far better then Clapton whom I consider the most overrated gutiar player of all times. Don't get me really going on this one! :o

Fully in agreement on your last point. And I will definitely try to locate that Zappa cover of STH, sounds great.

I LOVED Stairway to Heaven by Dolly Parton! :D

It was the extra three rungs on the step ladders wasn't it :o

The Man Who Sold The World - Lulu (Nirvana didn't even come close to the way she just nailed this song)

No argument here on that one.

Lovely day by Luther Vandross Ft. Busta Rhymes; they just killed the song and turned it to a sad day! :D

I still enjoy hearing this song only by Kirk Franklin or Bill Withers and defiantly not by Luther :o

When I saw the band perform this there was an almost tangible tingle of anticipation as the crowd waited to hear what one of the most inventive guitarists in the world would do with one of the best known guitar solos.

The result was, as you say, amazing! (and very funny) :o

good to see that there are others around who saw the master live...may I ask which concert you saw? I saw both, Dusseldorf and Cologne in 1988.

Colgne was first and very funny. Dusseldorf was apparently after the clash between the band and Scott Thunes. The concert was still great music but no gimmicks, no fun

I saw them in Brighton, which I think was the next stop after Cologne. They were in top form and it was nearly a 2 hour set, including the quite bizzare Beatles medley ("Lucy in the sky with diamonds" became "Louisiana hooker with herpes").

Great Fun! :o

I never heard that one actually, but know that they did it.

I thought GN'R's version of Live & Let Die was better than the original. However I do agree with Meadish about Nirvana's version of Lake of Fire being superior to The Man who Sold the World which while good was nothing too special.

As for some of my favourite covers, Rodrigo y Gabriela do a fine version of Stairway to Heaven and an exceptional version of Metallica's Orion.

I'm also quite fond of Seu Jorge's (Sp?) versions of David Bowie songs for the movie the Life Aquatic. I've been trying to track down an affordable copy of "The Life Aquatic Sessions" for a while now with no luck (The last one I came across was $69).

I've got a couple of Seu's songs from the movie.

Excellent.

Talking Heads cover of Al Green's "Take Me To The River", very good IMO. A good example of cross genre musicianship, delivering a good song to a wider audience.

agreed :o

there are of course 1000's of cover songs, here's one compilation torrent i came across that some thoughtful chap made without prejudice - there's good and bad in here. above all, there'll be some surprises for everybody in here:

Celine Dion doesn't count, as she isn't human.

This is the worst cover song evah! :o

Ken Lee

I saw this before and while I agree it's fab, it's so squirm inducing I can't watch all of it! :o
