Solar or wind turbine are options but setup costs are hefty.

what about oil tank

Oil tank? Are you thinking of running a diesel, or gasoline, powered generator. Set up costs are dependant on power rating but are not cheap and running costs, including maintenance, will be higher than power from the grid otherwise everyone would be doing it.

If you have a river through you property you could consider a water turbine but, as with the others above, set up costs are exhorbitant.

Personal power gen sounds an ideal but is just not viable.

If you want to cut fuel bills conservation is the way to go for individuals.

i know what u r saying i am just interested if the electric company every cut me off. if i lost all my money or something. i like to prepare for everything. just herd a few storys from people who have been cut off. or there land runs through someone elses and they have to produce there own electric.

just seeing what is on offer. personally i am alright for now but i am getting bills of about 6 to 9 k per month i have 3 phase with a transformer. have a swimming pool but it is not turned on. there must be a theif in sight. i will cut the power at my MDB box at sometime in the night and see if anynodies lights go out :o

If you were near to a nice shallow patch of sea water you could develop a heat engine with a low pressure turrbine to generate your own electricity. Always something I'd planned on looking into, but never had the time.

I've seen a wind wheel in thong Sala, don't know if tyey do electric with it. But wind and sun, we have plenty. A friend of mine runs tv, fridge and fan on sunelectric.
