UDON NANNY RAPED BY MOTORBIKE TAXI DRIVER ON FIRST NIGHT AT WORK

A woman from Udonthani province who came looking for a job in Pattaya with her husband was raped, on July 12, 2008, by motorbike taxi driver on the first night that she had managed to find work as a nanny in the same building as her relatives lived in. The rapist threatened to kill her if she told anybody and is now missing.

Pol.Lt.Col.Wallop Gangtaratip, Pattaya Investigator, received a report on, at 2am, July 12, that a woman had been raped in a rented room, located opposite Gra-Prao-Dang shop, Soi 7,South Pattaya and sent a team to investigate. They arrived at the room to find Ms Mai (alias), (22), from Udonthani province, wearing a pink nightgown, crying and complaining of a stomach pain from the attack. Her husband and relatives were soothing her. The two boys, one 3 and the other 5-years-old, that Ms Mai had been looking after were asleep in the room, too.

Ms Mai told police that she and her husband had just come from their home town to look for work and had been in Pattaya for only 4 days. They were staying with her relatives. It was Ms Mai's first day of work as a nanny, taking care of the two sons of the owner of Room No. 4, Miss Pui. Miss Pui had gone out to work at a local beer bar in the early evening and was expected back around 3 am.

Ms Mai said that she had fallen asleep in the room with the two children. She was woken at around 12.30 am by the sound of the door being opened and thought it was Miss Pui returning from work. However, it was a motorbike taxi man, later identified as Mr.Uen, who was plying his trade in front of the apartment. Apparently, Mr. Uen knew Miss Pui quite well and forced open the door to come in. Miss Mai asked Mr. Uen if he had brought Miss Pui back home, but Mr. Uen did not reply to her specific question, only telling her that he had liked her from the first day she had arrived.

Mr. Uen then threw himself at her and tried to kiss her. She tried to resist, but he punched her heavily in the stomach, twice. She was then thrown onto the bed and straddled. Mr. Uen warned her not to scream, otherwise he would kill her and then covered her mouth his hands. Following this, Mr. Uen raped her, while the two children were still asleep.

After she was raped, Mr. Uen threatened again that she would be killed if she told anyone. He also bragged that he had been living in Pattaya a long time, knew many people and that nobody would dare touch him. After that, Mr. Uen made his escape.

Even though she was still suffering from having been hit severely in stomach, Ms Mai put on her clothes to go to her husband's room to tell him of her assault and to get him to report her rape to the police. Later, Ms Mai related to police how she and her husband had been looking for work in Pattaya for only a few days and how when she had eventually found work as a nanny, she had been raped the first night. She told officers that she was hurt both physically and mentally and was feeling ashamed, both for herself and her husband that it happened to her. Her husband then begged the police to arrest the culprit as soon as possible.

Police officers then took Ms Mai to the station to record the incident, after which they took her to Banglamung Hospital for a physical check up. Mr. Uen is known to police who will ask around among local motorbike taxi drivers to try and locate him. In addition, Miss Pui, the owner of the room would be questioned as she apparently knew Mr. Uen very well, as she used his taxi service to go to work regularly. Police hope to arrest the culprit very soon.
