Where Can I Find.. Tools / Mechanics Type

Featured Replies

When the villa fell down the hillside people got into my under pool storage room and ripped off all my European tools, power tools, etc.. To be honest I dont do much DiY here but having got a big bike again I want to be able to do small stuff myself. I just need the basics, and I certainly dont need snap on or high end imported items.

So far I can only find the high priced import items (500 baht for a stanley pair of grips) or absolute rubbish chinese tin things. I want to just find the kind of normal / low end tools you would buy in the west, tools where the ratchet doesnt throw a spring the second time you pick it up. So far I havent even seen a socket set anywhere..

On the list to find is a full socket set, full set of open / ring ended wrenches on a roll, maybe an impact screwdriver, etc etc.. Just the basics. Stuff like screw drivers, pliers and mole grips I have seen but its the 'bit more' than that stuff that I cant find.

I cant believe all the tin shack Somchai type bike fixers spend an arm and a leg so any sources ?? The one place I havent yet tried that I probably should is supercheap ??

Ive got a fine set for sale on Thai Visa classified. Like you I got sick of loosing skin from my knuckles and the tools lasting 5 mins. So got Mrs H2O to bring me a good set back when she was in the USA. Not the cheapest butl ike I always say " you get what you pay for " Enjoy :o

I'd roll in to the tin shack and put the question to 'ol Somchai. Mainly because I do not have a good answer for you (sorry).

Big C has some cheap little tool kits, not bad for the money. Bit better would be the big (huge) tool shop on Samkong. Head past Lotus going towards Bangkok Phuket. About 80m left side before traffic lights turning light into Samkon/Hostpital. They have all sorts cheap & expensive tools, including socket sets.

Kinda tried that but didnt get a clear answer.. Also feel odd doing that as its his work I am trying to take away..

I notice that lots of Thais come and use his shop tools there for low money, instead of use his service.

Big C had some basic wrenches.. Low selection tho.. Couldnt see a socket set or stuff like an impact driver..

The last one sounds a go.. Think I may know the one you mean.. Will check it out soon.. Thanks.

Guess you've tried home pro already?

Thanks.. But yeah tried that one..

Plenty of tools but not auto mechanic tools as far as I could see.

HI

There is a shop when you go to Phuket town from Tesco, cant remember the name but on your left side about 1-2km from Tesco, they have a big sign with a drill outside, i have bought really good tools there, even inch tools for my bike

Yeh, that's the one I suggested. I call it the Bosche shop because of the big drill sign.

Funny you should say that. I was having a flat fixed Friday morning and two Thais rode up, flapped at the guy that was working on my bike, took some of his tools and did a job. Boogied on when finished, no money changed hands.Thai style I guess......

I recommend Adisak on the LHS of the bypass road between the Tesco Lotus crossroads and Keehin Electrical, towards the Toyota garage.

They have a good range of quality engineering tools, and occasionally even knowledgeable staff who can understand what you want, and find things. (That’s a bit different to the egregious hel_l that is Home Pro!).

Having one’s tools stolen is one of the worst things that can happen. I sympathise.

Good luck!
