I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this bike I saw today. It was at a local shop, I didn't have time to ask questions, so I snapped a few shots on my camera phone. Sorry about the quality, it was stuck between a post and a hydrant. Hard to get a good angle.

Anyhow it is a radical little creation, I will stop back on Monday and ask a few questions.

The search engine is a wonderful tool.

Sachs is the oldest bike maker in the world (so I read here) which was based in Germany.. They sold off to some Chinese outfit for the production with supposedly german design and quality control / engineering. These are using the decades old Honda engine design, in a funky new style package.

They look fun but they are horribly under powered, if you were a tinkerer type you could probably use after market tuning parts and some work to hot it up to useable levels.

I have since heard that the company had some financial problems after the sale (and that Chinese cloners are already pumping out cheaper non Sachs copies, welcome to china !!) and may have even been sold again.. I think RichardBKK may have some info on this.

I have to say my personal opinion was this would be an interesting little item.. If they kept the price at cheap levels (45 - 55) and got 10hp out of it I could see it being sold on the fun factor. I have seen a 500cc concept with a similar design ethos and heard there would be a 250 version in the works too.. They also are making an off road / dual purpose machine.

The bike is indeed chinese produced, however some of the cycle parts are superb, the brakes and muffler system are 2,very modern /trendy looking, however, wait for the 250 due out next month,( allegeadly ) the 125 is a 60s slug,.

Yes agreed.. These are Chinese made but are not awful JRD like quality.. In fact from what I saw they looked quite passable.

Do you have a price prediction on the 250 ??

like most things in thailand its top secret, but it will be a dramatic leap from the 125s 50.000 baht ill bet, more like close to 100.000.the chinese are defiantly capable of turning out good quality,JRD are a classic example of what poor stuff they can do too :o

I thought burning your leg on the exhaust was a thing of the past.

See these for sale on 3rd road in Pattaya.

True, happy chatree is the the unofficial sachs dealer ( for now ) i think when the 250 is released he will lose it to one of the bigger players, i looked closely at this bike, its not bad,as i said before i think the cycle parts are of high quality and if the engine could be improved ( in power ) its a cracker,

Yeah, I suppose I deserve that. I should have phrased the OP to say "Does anyone have an opinion on this funky bike?"

I did some googling after I made the post and I found that people find them to be a lot of fun in the city. I'll probably give it a pass however, because the 250 sounds more interesting. It would be great to take one for a buzz around town though.

I have some opinion about the MadAss 125, it is a underpowered bike, targeted at the trendy teenagers around. Problem is that a trendy teenager with its impressive looking MadAss cannot impress his girlfriend who rides a Honda Wave 125.

My opinion, after I looked at it for about 30 minutes.... The idea comes to mind that I can make something similar in the back of my shack...

If the MadAss was equipped with a engine like something what powers the Honda Sonic 125, then it was a good bike. With a suggested retail price of 57,000 Baht I would say let it be and buy a Honda Sonic or save some more and buy a Honda CBR-150R or Tiger Boxer 200 (then when you do some attention throttle work at the traffic lights you make a chance to be the first to be away, with the current MadAss engine you surely the last even you have a hard time beating a Honda Wave 100X)

I luv'd it the minute I saw it! But the Aussie price of AU$2990 is way to much....well I thought. 57,000baht is to much for what your getting. If the 125 had some power it would go a long way towards justifying that price. I wouldn't consider the 250 if it is as agricultural as the 125, not for 100,000baht!

I saw one today, the guy riding it had the biggest grin on his face! looks fun but I'd need some questions answered before I thought about buying one

I belief I told my idea with the 125cc version, but the balance of power changed... Sachs seems to have upgraded the engine to a complete new 135cc engine for some models. And we last tested a Sachs Kikass 125, which is basically using the "old" MadAss engine, but in a bike of +/- 70kg and then it rocks... the power to weight ratio is 'troubling' good...

Okay the KikAss is not for everybody, it is basically a motorcycle in the Kawasaki KSR110 class... just a bit more ass kicking would I say..

I've always loved the look of these little things, but like people are saying, for that kind of cash, I'd rather buy a long list of bikes before this one. I want to try making one myself. I have several old unregistered Honda Dreams which I've bought for between 2000 and 4000, so I wouldnt mind chopping one up, relocating the tank, making an underseat exhaust and throwing on every "posh" part I can find in the Warachak area.

Pipe burns on the leg may be a thing of the past, but pipe burns on the butt may be a thing of the future. :o

So the kickass is the old madass ?? Same size or shrunk ?? Still 4 speed ??

And theres a new 135cc mad ass ?? Same size spec or different ?? Again 4 speed ??

Whats stopping them making a 150cc or even 180 - 200cc madass ?? The tax is the same, the engine design is so old that aftermarket heads must be easy to find.. A 150cc madass would be a good town toy.

They just released this in Thailand last year, in the US the 50ccs have been out for 2 years or more. Like everyone has been saying the motor is the same as honda was putting on bikes long ago, so there are plus and minus to it.Slw being the main disadvantage. Easy to mod and make faster the main advantage. The brakes and headlamps are modern and some people like the style.

Personally I like the design but think it is still not as nice as a new FI bike with the same ccs made by a japanese co.

I will judge the 250 when it is out, but there seem to be nicer options in that class as well. Personally I like the170 Italijet

What 250 ??

I have seen the 'concept' 500 which IIRC has some awful old engine, enfield or something nasty... And seen the 50 and 125 for a couple of years.. But 250 sachs ?? Have a pic link ??

I also love the italjet dragster 250.. In fact if what I understand of the rules has changed.. Whats to stop that being imported without taxation ?

It was just over a year ago exactly that i was at the bkk show at bitec and saw the madass stand, displayed amongst the 125s there was a 250, i asked when release was, " 3 months " was the answer,.well unless ive missed it it still aint here, if a thais lips are moving they are usually lying,.just typical of thai business,.or is that a contradiction of speech :o

Yeah I saw it there as well. Didn't ask about the release of that because at the time I was interested in the 125 more, having a friend who had one (a 50cc which he upped to a 70cc) in the states, Actually he didn't like it much and sold it not long after he bought it but I never got around to finding why. He did tell me it wasn't that great to handle, slow and the seat was bad, but I thought that at least it looked more comfortable on the 125 and 250 models. I hadn't seen that 500, that looks pretty cool. The x frame thing they have designed for these bikes is pretty atractive and kind of rugged looking IMO. Personally I don't like the pipe coming out the ass end. Hot ass seems more like it but I know they are just trying to be badass (why they didn't just go with that name, IDK?).

BTW there is a web forum in thailand for them

I haven't seen a 250 but have seen a couple of 170ccs on motorcyc.com which I beleive had papers (invoice?) and I assume were plate-able. The were both in the 45000 baht range which sounded pretty reasonable to me.
