lardy Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I'm looking at buying the new 2008 Jazz just the 1.5V auto paying cash but no one will discount anything off them including Tops motors, any tips or is the market totally sewn up. I'm not interested in their free window tints, spoilers, polish, mudflaps ,floor mats etc.
Crossy Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Cash discounts just don't seem to exist here, you can get all sorts of freebies (some of which are quite valuable) but an actual discount, no way Of course, someone will now come along having sussed how to get a discount "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
Tywais Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Of course, someone will now come along having sussed how to get a discount At Honda here in Chiangmai I asked how much would they reduce the price. Without hesitation she said 10,000 Baht. Plus lots of freebies on top of that. So, not a lot of sussing envolved But generally, pretty much impossible to bargain a discount and suspect this was perhaps a promotion. Some dealers will give one year first class insurance for free, nominally a 20-25k value.
rgs2001uk Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 the honda dealers on ramkamhaeng road, cant remember the exact soi number, its opposite soi 34 or 36, offer cash discounts, or at least they did in may this year. depends on who you talk to and how polished up you are on your haggling skills. the wife had the salesmans supervisor drive to the house to continue the bargaining after the salesman honestly told her it was beyond his remit, he didnt have the authority, however his supervisor did. like you , the wife wasnt interested in any gimmicks, however they did throw in free insurance. happy haggling.

Farma Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 My experience trading in at an upcountry Toyota dealer earlier this year. Cash purchase. Haggled for increased trade-in price and got it, then asked for a discount on new car. Got 10,000 Baht discount from senior salesman + 1 years 1st class insurance, rust proofing, floor mats, fender mirror, window tinting and side mirrors with built-in indicator lights. They wouldn’t budge on request for full tank of fuel. 200 Baht fuel only when car delivered.
Heng Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 "Free" 1st class insurance thrown in is pretty standard. It's usually just a question of haggling over which 150% markup options you're going to get (buy) at full price.
chivo Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 a cash discount is only good if they havent jacked up the starting price... def shop around and compare...
stingray Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I still in business with someone who sale new cars. There is a max. 5% profit on a new car. So if they discount they lose all their profit. For Example: if a 800'000 Baht car we got about 40'k, minus the free insurance and a couple freebees is maybe a 20 or 22'k profit left, which have to share with the wholeseller. In my opinion this is a shame! Therefore nobody is willing to discount a new vehicles.

Check with Thai Visa Insurance before agreeing the deal to see if they can get better coverage/lower premium
Bennyl Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I just shop aroung for a new Toyota Vigo. Totally Iasked 4 shops, and 3 of them 0 to 5.000 baht discount, plus all extras, and 1 yr. insurance. One 10.000 baht disocutn plus, plus. It's worth to use the competition to your benefit.
