Hi there,

I am looking for info on fuel consumption. I want to buy a new car, either:

Honda Jazz

Toyota Yaris

Mazda3 1.6

Toyota Altis 1.6

Honda civic 1.8

I am intersted in any comparisons on fuel consuptions on these cars, i think jazz and yaris will be the best,,,,but how much better???...i do like the mazda3 it is only a 1.6 engine, so would the fuel consumption be much more than yaris?

I just sold my M3 1.6 because the engine was sluggish and consumed too much fuel (especially city driving 9,5L/100 km).

Yaris and Jazz are too small cars, go with the civic 1.8!

First-gen Jazz gets upwards of ~450 to a 40-liter refill.

Had a friend with a Mazda 3. He liked the handling but fuel economy was shit given the poor power so he sold it and pooled money with his brother to together buy an older Range Rover with LPG and a Lancer Evo 8 MR. That gave them choice of riding in comfort at the same time as being cheap and having an actual sports car.

what about the Chevrolet Aveo?...it has good reviews......I cant find if it can use gasohol though??...in the brochure and website it doesn't say anything about gasohol, but the supplier says it can use it???...dont know if it is just a sales pitch?

I think that pretty much every car built today can take gasohol with no problems besides slightly-accelerated wear in the tank, lines, etc but it should burn just fine.

Be prepared to lose more money when you eventually sell it though. GM family cars don't hold value very well here.

...when I rent a 3 year old Honda Jazz, all I seem to get is about 10km / litre driving in town anyway, and Jazz & Yaris are supposed to be the best for fuel consumption????...so that means your mazda3 drinks fuel the same as the Jazz.....thats ok isn't it???

The first 3000 km on my new Jazz, I did an average of 14 km/ liter. Mostly driving short distances from Bang Saray to Pattaya and back, and around town, a few long trips with soft foot. The soft foot no higher then 100 km/h motorway trip to BKK and back I got up to 19 km/l, but that was very tame and restrained. I think 14-15 km average, depending on your needs is achievable. Your driving style may vary.

I just bought a Yaris after renting a Vios (which has the same engine) for a month. Loved the acceleration and seemed much better than the old Jazz's i-DSI engine, which was the most fuel efficient option available. Sadly, the new Jazz only comes with the Vtec engine.

But since I just got mine this week I don't yet have a 'real world' kpl or mpg rating yet.

Incidentally, the Toyota Yaris was rated #5 greenest car (in the US) by autos.aol.com. And was rating as having the best fuel efficiency by US-based Consumer Reports (though the complained about it's design, etc).

Check out http://www.fuelly.com/ where you can compare real fuel usage posted by the sites members. This is as real as it gets.

Are those figures from the onboard computer or have you worked it out when refilling?

I only ask because I noticed the onboard computer isn't accurate.

The 9,5L/100km consumption is not in BKK but much lighter city driving. No idea what it would be in BKK but sure must ne higher...

where you drive???

In Europe...

You're right, the onboard computer is very optimistic. God for feedback on driving style, but not accurate. My 14 km/l was based on the total distance driven divided by the litres of fuel put in.

My onboard computer is pretty consistent but it always tells me that I am using more than I actually am. The last fill up, I got 13.45 kpl and the computer said I was using 9.3 liters per hundred kilometers.

i have a Mazda 3 1,6 with manual Gear (of course)

its true the car nned compared to todays standard alot of gas ...

but all together it comes really down to

- mazda 3

- civic

- bmw 3 ;-)

so the last one is cut of due pricing

just 2 left ... the civic is better in consumtion matters .. but the sport effect is with the mazda way up ..

over land .. my mazda 3 eat about 7 liters/100km

and in bkk its 9,5 (as mentioned)

by use of Gasohol 91
