Hi there,

I am thai and stay at thailand now. I have some question about US green card thing. I started to do US green card on year 2003 and on 2006 they asked me to send copy of my Thai ID card and house registration from Thailand. On 2007, I got married and divorced at the same year. I heard somebody said that if I got married while doing US green card processing, they will cancel everything that I filed for my green card. Is that correct? How did they know I'm married? Is Immigration come check my record over here too. My mom filed US green card for me and my US lawyer told my mom if she take a US citizen test, it will be alot easier to do my green card. I don't my want my mom taking a test because she wants to come back to live at thailand later when she's old.

I'm just afraid that my lawyer will rip my mom off cuz my mom she believe whatever he said and paid him money when he asked for. I dont know anybody know about this situation or not.

THanks in advance!!

There's no problem with your mom becoming a citizen in the USA and then returning to Thailand later to live out her life. This is what my Thai wife is planning to do herself (with me or after I die) and she is close to gaining her US citizenship now. Thai citizenship cannot be taken away unless the citizen agrees to it by signing an affidavit declaring so.

This is what I would consult a lawyer about and then go the citizenship route. The other stuff about your green card, I don't know. But if you have a family member who is a citizen in the USA, it is MUCH easier to get visa's and green cards. What you have said about your mother's lawyer's recommendation sounds right to me as long as the amount paid was appropriate.

Good luck!
