From skysports:

Gunners swoop for Silvestre

Arsenal have snapped up Mikael Silvestre from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.

The French defender was sidelined for much of last season due to injury before returning to action in March.

He has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer and the likes of Roma and Bordeaux have both expressed an interest.

A number of Premier League clubs including Manchester City and Sunderland have also been connected with Silvestre but United have now allowed him to join fierce rivals Arsenal.

Silvestre signed for United from Internazionale in 1999 and made almost 250 appearances for the club.

He will now look to rediscover his best form at Emirates Stadium and challenge Gael Clichy for a place at left-back after signing a two-year deal with the Gunners.

This is a good move for Man U. They strengthen Chelsea's Liverpools rival and knowing Mr Fegie, have put in a clause saying Sylvestre can't play against United.

I bet keano is well cheesed off after thinking he had this deal in the bag. :o

2 yr deal to boot.......slightly out of character for Wenger to off this kind of contract to a 30 yr old. Good piece of business, IMO. :D

Fergie said a while ago if he didnt see the hunger in a players eyes they were on their bike. Silvestere said recently he wanted to stay at Man U for his testimonial ,read that as money not hunger. Jonny Evans and Gary Neville will be able to cover that position. Actually saw an old Man Umatch on True last week and Neville played left back and was man of the match. It was 19 forgotten though.
