HIT AND RUN BUT NO LUCK

At 00.15, on 31 August, 2008, Pol.Lt.Col.Samrerng Rattananam, Pattaya investigator, was notified of a car crashing into a motorbike and killed two men. The incident was at the curve of Soi Chalermprakiet 35 (opposite 93 Miles Pub), Pattaya 3rd road and South Pattaya, Moo 10, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. Police team and Sawang Boriboon rescue rushed to investigate.

At the scene, a blue and black Honda Wave, license No. 548, Chonburi, was in a bad wreck. Mr. Pichai Phanphong (53), the owner, who was a motorbike taxi , stationed at Welcome hotel, was severely injured. He had been taken to Pattaya Memorial hospital but did not survive. His passenger, Mr. <deleted>, a Khaer, on the pillion seat, was also killed instantly.

The man who had crashed the car into the motorbike and caused the death drove away but police managed to arrest him in front of Chidlom shop, near Pattaya Fire Station, 500 meters away from the incident.

The black Ford Escape, license No. 3283, Bangkok, was driven by Mr. Anuwat Saiphongphan (32), from Rachaburi province. His girlfriend was also in the car when the incident occurred. The front parts of the car were damaged with the engine and the front windscreen was totally broken.

Mr.Anuwat , the driver, claimed that he was driving from Bali Hai pier, heading to his residence at Central Pattaya. When the traffic light was green at Pattaya 3rd road and South Pattaya junction, he had sped up the car , heading to the curve. Suddenly, there was a motorbike, coming to cross the road and cut in front of him, tried to get into Soi Chalermprakiet 35. His car had heavily crashed into the motorbike and caused them dead.

Mr. Anuwat also denied that he did not intend to escape but he could not stop his car. However, police were not convinced and assumed that Mr. Anuwat intended to escape from the guilt after the crashing. Police had detained Mr. Anuwat to process the case according to the law.

Wow. Another classic gem of a headline from PDN,

"HIT AND RUN BUT NO LUCK"

Yeah, no luck for the two that were killed. No luck for the guy that tried to get away. Luck for the police that they were able to catch him a mere 500 meters away though.

What would they have run as the headline if the driver had of gotten away ?

"2 Die In Hit And Run, But Lucky Driver Avoids Police And Escapes With Minor Damage To His Vehicle ?" :o

"Two Motorcycle Riders Killed By Death"

yep.

that'll do it...

LOL :o

Ford Escape? Looks like the death driver has some cash.

He could well have to fork out a 6-figure sum to weasel out of a prison term.

Justice Thai style.

This reporting/translation reminds me of a headline in an English newspaper in Turkey years ago " Earthquake hits.not many killed " !... :o

What would you do, insist on a lengthy jail term or pay money to the Family ? :o

Now Libya 115, did you word your thread title just to get reactions? I mean. who can resist?

"...Killed By Death"

I can hear the conversation with the coroner, "Yes, it looks like the cause of death was "death".
