State Of Emergency Announced In Bangkok

I'v ben travelling recently and I'm a bit confused here. Are we talking about the person who was killed during the fight prior to the State of Emergency ? By who this guy has been killed ?

When I read TV, I've the feeling PAD has been attacked by the people supporting the government but when I read the foreign press, it's a complete different story, they show mostly PAD supporters (wearing yellow clothes) beating up people who oppose them.

Yep you're right and that's the same kind of foreign media that made you believe that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

The foreign media I read, clearly stated that Samak's goons attacked PAD. So it's a matter of which media to believe.

Even if it was a comparison with Indira.

It`s Samak Sudaravej`we`re talking about here, the same Samak who when cornered starts threatening Al Jazeera and CNN journalists.

Not an iota of Ghandi in there.

Just an imposing proxy coward posing as PM.

The Prime Minsiter was not cornered by eiher Al Jazeera or CNN. He was toughly questioned by the CNN reporter and he gave a tough answer in return. He didn't threaten anyone. Did you see him threaten bodily injury? Did you see him threaten pecuniary injury? If you did, then perhaps your self professed dislike of Thailand and the gentleman has blinded you.

And since when have you considered Al Jazeera, the mouthpiece for middle eastern terrorists a responsible news agency? They wouldn't dare question one of the arab dictators in that manner. And that CNN reporter wouldn't have the temerity to have tried that question on a sitting western Prime Minister. Had he pulled that stunt on former Canadian PM Jean "the terminator" Chretien he probably would have lost his dentures much like the lout that tried to assault big Jean.

I am getting a lot of emails these days. I took the name off of this one, but thought it was interesting to give an idea of what it is like. This person is an observer, not a direct participant. I have edited it to protect the identity of the group she is with.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's all quite peaceful really. One hundred and four days of demonstrations by tens of thousand of peoples and no incidents. Then two nights ago, some pro-government thugs ' whiskey drunked up ' some other thugs to bash a few folks so emergency law could be declared. But not yet Martial law and curfew. And even if they did declare so, no one would obey.

As I write this, Parliament is in session trying to find a solution. Prime Min. & thus Government will not budge an inch as far as resigning. The Opposition the streets say that they must.

On the political scene at Parliament Building now some five thousand protesters are camped. But have to go through a metal detector ( like in airports ) before going in and out, and NO alcohol allowed...so the premises are not compromised...

The freedom party: they are marshalling the forces... the university students and the labour unions have joined the peoples movement... and now the business community is getting fed up and joining with peoples movement - gov. is not the best and certainly arrogant and we are waiting for the other shoe to drop....

Yes, several airports in the Provinces have for a while and the trains are half running... many schools closed... but everyone is in a positive frame of mind - parties on the streets - a good time is being had by all...

They are opening calling the prime min. pig nose/dog mouth.... oh boy ....

we are all fine - older kids are going to the demonstrations and helping with lots of other teenagers to wash dishes and clean pots and pans and sweep up area where they are demonstrating as most of the demonstrators are 30 - 40 years of age, people with regular jobs and educated. and lots of senior citizens. Plus some children went to listen to some famous local rock bands who are playing free for the demonstrators.... the children are safe, and no matter which way you favour, these are historic moments in Thailand.

Is that guy still throwing questions at me? :D

I apologize. I forgot you chose to ignore legitimate questions that you have no answer for. Good way to get your point across by ignoring people. :D

Don't worry, Joe. I'm still waiting for for the eel's opinion on General P's sudden appearance in the ranks of the PAD leadership! Good at posting silly pictures, not good at answering salient points!

Quit it with the name calling, unnecessary flaming.

Who were you before you got banned and chose a new nickmname?

I replied to you earlier and you are still twisting this cr@p your way saying I had not answered you about Panlop when it was the first time you did!. :o

If you can't keep track of your bullsh!t questions, which by the way you only brought in only to divert from two totally unrelated questions I asked SOMEONE ELSE in the first place, then get lost!

My honest reply TO YOU earlier:

"There are two questions I asked above that remain unanswered.

<deleted> does Panlop have to do with what I am asking???

It's the first time you ask me directly about Panlop, I'm not going to get drawn into this right now, I admit that I don't know enough about the man yet (who has time to cover all the side players involved), although I can tell you a rough estimate how many thousands died under Thaksin."

AND the related post at the time in which you spat out your TOTALLY UNRELATED Panlop question whose only purpose was to throw a wrench in the works to save someone from answering to lies he posted, nothing else.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?s=...t&p=2179694

If anyone clicks on the link above, they will clearly see what your true intention is here.

I'd love to answer your question, if I only knew what it was!

Your screaming rant here is so hard to understand, I've no idea of whom your are asking what.

Go back to watching ASTV in your own little dreamworld. By the way, what happened to all those hundreds of thousands of "workers" that were suposed to be coming out on strike? Don't see them, do you?

Even a PPP Mp would understand what I wrote above by clicking on the link provided, you simply deny it all and come back yet again with A NEW QUESTION.

Get lost!

Don't waste your time trying to get an honest answer from him. He has none. He just blows a lot of BS hot air and then puts people on ignore when he has no answers. Typical PAD.

Sorry OMR, but who do you expect is going to believe that ??

It really reminds me some communist propaganda. When are we going to see these beautiful paintings, healthy kids and strong workers, hand in hand, looking in the same direction for a bright future. We all know how the story ends ...

Bill Clenett was assaulted by Jean Chretien in my hometown, small world hey? Seen the footage dozens of times and actually met the man who liked to sip a beer same place I did. Clenett never raised a finger, he was holding a bullhorn and was in his path AMONGST A CROWD, Chretien lost it and grabbed him by the throat and Clennett ended up with a broken tooth and glasses. Add to that that his security team wasn't even in front of him because he often liked mixing with the crowd even though he was criticized for it, they would have avoided walking right into the bullhorn. Don't rewrite Canadian history as well like The RCMP spokesman is trying to do on the video, please.

It already has had a bad effect. I sell travel and already had 7 cancellations. 5 of which just happened today. Whats interesting is that 2 individuals also cancelled Cambodia because they are worried that if the PAD somehow manage to get into power, they might declare war on Cambodia

LOL ROFL

...

I was refering to the comment about Cambodia.

Speaking about tourist income...a light just came on....so many foreigners keep posting their ANTI-PAD rants here, which mostly are full of inaccuracy (with a few exceptions). Is their motive maybe, because they are loosing money? Bar owners, massage parlar owners, resort and guesthouse owners, travel businesses??? I couldn't figure out, why some of these posters almost seem to be foaming from the mouth, but it's starting to make sense now. Maybe it's because the protests are hurting their thick wallets? Maybe they are afraid that there servants and slave workforce might see the light and organize one day, demanding fair wages and benefits????

Just a thought ;-)

maybe those anti-PAD foreigners are not just blind and dumb socialist full with envy against peoplle have sucess.

ask yourself why sondhi is your hero, beloved führer, because you wrongly assume he will eat the rich?

and to see what light? sondhi is a ultra nationalist, right wing and occultist. on top of this a complete nutcase.

remember the rethoric at the time of the anti thaksin protest? thaksin main crime was not the corruption, but he dare to sell his company to singapore. he betrayed the proud nation, was doing business with foreigners. how he could do that? and the singaporean have been greedy foreigners looting the kingdom. so was the sondhi retoric. as a foreigner myself i would be better very sceptic what comes from this direction and i am be it since this time.

and the war against cambodia fear is not made up out of thin air or a comes from people being just stupid tourist. it's more like a well based and inside view.

sondhi, beeing a nutcase also accused thaksin to use something like khmer black magic power, again only to betray the thai people with the help of this bad khmer people ( foreigners).

and just last month, the Preah Vihear Temple problem. but now it is samak who betray the thai people and steal from them (of course only as a thaksin proxy).

but for sondhi is no way that those khmer( foreigners) get alone the temple as a world heritage listing. much more worse those khmer ( foreigners) will also celebrate black magic to harm thailand in this temple - so action is necessary to get samak out to get the land around the tempel.

read here about sondhis vision of foreign politics:

http://www.prachatai.com/english/news.php?id=732

okay And then we would order the Defense Ministry to build a naval base at Koh Kut, deploy two battleships there, together with patrol ships, build a runway for F-16 aircraft, abolish the committee which oversees demarcation of overlapping sea areas, and officially declare our own marine map.

Cambodia would be hopping mad, but we would not bother because Cambodia would not have the nerve to fight us. They can make noises and threats because our own people are traitors. But if they see that Thai soldiers have a firm stand, the (new) Thai government has a firm stand, and the Thai people are ready to sacrifice their lives for sovereignty, they will back off. sounds like sondhi thinks he win that war already but he speaks also about to close all borders and flight connection until the UNESCO follow sondhis order.

so much about "LOL ROFL" with holiday in cambodia.

do you understand now? start to see the light.

and in no way the PAD is a democratic or peaceful movement, nor they will care about those poor people you talking about.

what makes you think that? the opposite with their constitution idea of only 30% of the parliament elected your beloved average and less fortune citizen have also lesser influence or will get at least a not so bad price if he sell his vote. (what is wrong with vote selling anyway? can i not decide by my own what i do with my vote?)

and who are those "unions"? you seems to know more about them.

i doubt that we can compare them to unions in the west or see them like some kind of working class movement like they are in the west (europe).

(Kurt, a literature tip about union movement - read "last exit brooklyn" by Hubert Selby. a must read for union lovers, you will love it and also learn so much from it) i think those unions of state own companies are nothing more like civil servants getting a job with good connection and if they obey well a senior position with a nice state pension. some semi elitist circle. but is just a guess. someone knows more about those unions?

what thailand needs is stability. if someone like samak gets elected by the (less educated) majority i have to accept it. at least the goverment have a quorum. a other party or other bunch of politicans wouldn't be that different anyway. if a stable, you can make plans for the future, invest money and life time here. progress and profit.

political nutcases dosn't garant this. specially not someone like sondhi, if this "ouk bai, ouk bai" works a second time. how you will know that the next goverment will face the same melody. this is not the way a society should based on. if the goverment fail send them away in a civil way with elections.

and what will happen if the sondhi team gets the power but economic wise the things work not well? how you keep the power to the people feeling for the people.

remember the pattern? appeal to the notions unity, blame the others. okay, that do they all. but sondhi goes a little but further- blame the foreigners or make accusation out of complete BS, for example using black magic. okay nationalistic and xenophobic is also BS, but could still run a stable society. but with being afraid of black magic?

that a slice of my prospective view why and where i have my problems with the PAD. about the problems with the right now situation i talked in an other post.

but i know ony little and always impressed how others are so certain. you even have seen the light and sondhi is your hero.

you also mentioned all the academics and educated students swing in the same way.

for sure you must know so much more then me, please explain why all this is justified and to what it will lead in the future.

Thank you very much for sharing that with us, OMR. I know you generally tend not do so with such a direct method and I very much appreciate your making an exception doing so in this case.

It is the reports like this, direct from the front lines, that contradict and thus dismiss so many of these so-called "on-the-ground" reports that actually are coming from Australia, UK, USA, etc. that seems to have invaded TV over the past week.

It's a real shame to witness the "usenet syndrome" all over again. :o

Again, thanks and I hope you will share more of the same...to whatever degree you feel comfortable with.

Bill Clennett was trying to disrupt the former Prime Minister at the first Flag Day ceremony and presented a physicalthreat to Mr. Chretien. Mr. Chretien took the hooligan down when he used the Shawinigan Handshake in self defense. It seems the Canadian public and the provincial attorney general agreed with Mr. Chretien assessments as Mr. Clenett's proxy that tried to bring suit was tossed out of court and laughed at by the citizens at large. Mr. Clennett was a well know agitator and has run for a political group that espouses the break up of Canada and pushes an extreme left wing manifesto, that would deny civil rights to certain minorities.

This event has relevance to Thailand as the current PM is facing a totalitarian group group that espouses the fracturing of Thailand into haves and have nots and wishes to deny civil rights to some. The group has brough spurious lawsuits against the PM and will see them dismissed. Unlike Mr. Chretien the genial Samak Sundaravej has chosen the path of peace. However, he may just let loose the Bangkok Bump.

True and true. If it's the American media, you're wasting your time. Or anywhere Rupert Murdock urinates for that matter.

There's always 2 sides of the story, but for now at least, there are two distinct sides in Thailand. It'd be nice if the US had an opposition party. Dems and Repubs are just 2 sides of the same coin here. I hope that doesn't happen in Thailand. Seems like Thais want to keep their Republic. They sure report for duty!

Upon learning the UDD had marched to the PAD's protest site at the bridge, PAD core member Somsak Kosaisuk immediately ordered demonstrators to rush to the Makkhawan Rangsan site from Government House.

The PAD demonstrators, mostly young men armed with knives, wooden clubs, golf clubs and iron bars, reinforced PAD guards, numbering about 1,000, at the bridge to protect their protest site.

the UDD, which was outnumbered by the PAD, suffered casualties. The dead man was identified as UDD member Narongsak Krobthaisong, 55.

Yes, the slain person was a pro-government supporter who was murdered by PAD security guards i.e. the Ghandian, ahimsa(never do harm, turn the other cheek) spouting people.

The group has brough spurious lawsuits against the PM and will see them dismissed. Unlike Mr. Chretien the genial Samak Sundaravej has chosen the path of peace. However, he may just let loose the Bangkok Bump.

I'm reminded of Ice Hockey, for some reason, witnessing this fete between the Canadian Contingent of posters...

I suggest you watch the CNN and Al Jazzera interviews again towards the end.

And he claims to be PM...

Bill Clennett was trying to disrupt the former Prime Minister at the first Flag Day ceremony *along with a group of about a hundred other people and presented a physicalthreat :o to Mr. Chretien. Mr. Chretien took the hooligan :D down when he used the Shawinigan Handshake in self defense. *you are still distorting facts and not mentioning the man`s accomplishments for the poor in the Ottawa-Hull area.

Samak hasn`t yet personally grabbed a Thai by the throat as PM.

How can anyone not conclude Chretien is not guilty and that HE AND his security team did not f*&? up with what he says just before he gets back in his limousine... Even the RCMP agent has to contort over this. Way to go ti-Jean for trying to strangle one of your own public servants. :D

Enough with the Canadian bullsh!t from the past.

The PAD were not atacked by governement supporters. What happened was that government supporters got near an area that PAD feels is its own turf. This blatant disregard for PAD (yes PAD do believe they can designate any area of bangkok as their own ) so enraged PAD leaders that the well armed PAD security and thugs were ordered to attack the pro-government protestors. The killing is seen as a warning to anyone else who might want to anatgaonize PAD.

It is amazing how you twist the truth. If I only read your comments I would think it was the PAD that attacked the UDD instead of what really happened. Clearly, the UDD were the aggressors and the PAD were the defenders. Go back and read the article you attached and you will see this:

"The violence erupted shortly after midnight when the UDD led more than 2,000 members, mostly wearing red T-shirts or red headbands, to march from Sanam Luang, where the UDD held a rally yesterday to counter the PAD rally, to Makkhawan Rangsan bridge, the headquarters of the PAD.

The UDD members, mostly armed with wooden batons, some with iron bars, stones and knives, were led by young men on board 20 motorcycles, who honked their horns while leading the group along the avenue. Two six-wheel trucks followed the group."

SJ, nice collage of photos. Know what I see?

- An old man eating. Are you any different when you eat. Maybe you dribble and spill crumbs. I see he doesn't. Good manners there!

- Ok, so he's bored. You'd be too if you had to listen to the same whining complainers 24/7. (And no don't you dare say you have to read me... :o )

- Ok, so some grim photos. I don't see the gentleman pulling any triggers or in the photos. (I don't want to defend it, and you know why. Horrible events, but everyone up to some current people that I will not reference are just as guilty.)

I'v been travelling recently and I'm a bit confused here.

Yes, the slain person was a pro-government supporter who was murdered by PAD security guards i.e. the Ghandian, ahimsa(never do harm, turn the other cheek) spouting people.

One MUST question what HIS actions were just prior to his death to determine the cause.

A blanket 'he was murdered by PAD guards' is FAR from a sufficient statement of fact.

If he walked or ran up to PAD lines swinging a machette, his death sadly could have been

a logical sude affect of HIS own actions.

I blame the PPP MP's on the DAAD UDD rally for this EQUALLY to any PAD guards.

Incitment to anarchy and specific directions for where to go to create it caused this poor souls death.

Thailand’s strange brew to see more toil and trouble

The turmoil in Thailand has lately worsened so much that if only the government had known, it would not have declared an emergency.

If that seems paradoxical, then that is one of the things anti-government protesters have made of the country. By ignoring the emergency at will and with impunity, protesters have made both the emergency declaration and the prime minister himself look ineffective and pathetic.

Premier Samak Sundaravej declared an emergency on Tuesday apparently after some reflection and consultation with colleagues. However, Army Chief General Anupong Paochinda has refused to take emergency-type measures against violators.

In an emergency the Army Chief is tasked with maintaining order. But Anupong wants to act politically by negotiating with the protesters, saying a political solution is needed, while the prime minister wants to act militarily by crushing his noisy opponents.

The result has been confusion, apart from the clear general agreement that Samak is the root of all the problems.

For someone who started off on his trouble-prone premiership as a reputed proxy for Thaksin Shinawatra, a former prime minister turned fugitive from the courts, Samak is doing very well in building notoriety of his own.

He was accused of being a Thaksin stooge, then of corruption and election fraud, and now of autocracy in declaring an emergency, and then blamed for a meaningless emergency. The list of protest complaints may not end there.

There are critics who accuse Samak of overreacting with an emergency, and other critics who blame him for failing to take emergency measures against street violence once the emergency was declared. Samak no longer needs Thaksin around to be blamed for.

Only five days ago the protests seemed like tapering off under their own inertia, but now the emergency instead has given new life to the campaign against Samak’s premiership. If only Samak had known, he might not have run in last December’s election either.

He thought emergency rule could douse the fire, but it was just pouring oil on it. The betting in Bangkok is that Samak would succumb to growing pressure and resign any hour now.

That pressure however is not one-sided. The 43-union Federation of State Enterprises had planned a 200,000-strong demonstration yesterday, but that soon fizzled out.

Protest leader Sondhi Limthongkul of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) thought demonstrations might begin to dissipate last weekend, underestimating its staying power. As a business mogul he must know that a prolonged crisis is bad for business, particularly when local and foreign business people have started to complain.

So yesterday Sondhi listed some demands to be met before the protesters would disperse, without first discussing them with other protest leaders. The signs of being harried are everywhere.

More pressure has piled on Samak since Tuesday when the Election Commission implicated his People’s Power Party (PPP) in fraud in December’s election, and recommended to the courts to disband the PPP.

That should lead to fresh elections, but Samak and his fellow party leaders would be banned from political activity for five years. By then, a new party comprising mainly PPP members would be formed to contest the election.

If that sounds familiar, it would be Thai Rak Thai III. Thaksin’s party met the same fate before its reincarnation as the PPP, although it apparently could not shake off its karma.

Apparently the cabinet are going to go with th somewhat wierd idea of a referendum. One wonders who will get to frame the questions or who will be considered neutral enough to do so. One wonders what period will be allowed for sides to make their arguements in a fair and equal manner.

Yeah crazy time but it does buy time for the budget to be forced through. Oh yes another mad idea in Thailand.
