American foreign policy possibly has a greater effect in the outside world than it does in the US.

A change, or no change, in government may actually mean little more than paying more or less tax to the average American. To many citizens of the world it could mean tanks in the main street and the difference between starving and eating.

This is what I am talking about. I hear this kind of thing all the time, even before Iraq and Afghanistan. What is an example? The Germans just seemed to love Obama paying them a visit, why? What is he gonna do for them that they like him so much?

You don't have liberals in America. Americans aren't very good at lefty stuff.

The only decent leftist you've had in recent years is Pete Seeger.

Tell it like it is Pete.

Still, what the h3ll good does that do the Germans? He is not running their country, so who cares there what he is.

The are liberals and all believe in a bunch of nutty conspiracy theories and so does he. Birds of a feather... :o

What happens in the US greatly affects my hip pocket.

Wall street's hiccups change my fortunes every day, even if the cause has nothing to do with my investments.

And don't get me started on those a/holes who engineered the whole sub prime farce which has had repucussions everywhere!

:o

When America's nose itches the World sneezes! :o

And of course....

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else".

Bops,

so much could be said but it'd all just be more words, like dust in the wind.

US to give Georgia a cool 1 billion...

:o

Such "generosity" never comes for free.

Announcing the aid package, Ms Rice said the US was "responding to what we consider to be urgent needs".

"With our full support and the support of the entire free world, :D a democratic Georgia will survive, will rebuild and will thrive.

(Good to see you again, buddy.)

Because you have to understand what the present generation Germans stand for.

They inherited a shameful century where their own country started 2 World Wars and slaughtered/killed/gassed Millions of people and the shame is still DEEP inside 80 million Germans although it isn't their fault (present majority) and can't be blamed for it -anymore-.

The Germans want peace and tranquility and are (as most Europeans) sick and tired of all those wars created by the predecessors of Obama (if he wins...). They were also reminded again with Obama's visit by the famous visit of John F. Kennedy to Berlin where he spoke the words:

Ich bin ein Berliner free translated: I am one of you/I am with you/ I stand next to you...

I watched it on Television and got chicken skin when I heard him say those words...

That's why the Germans liked Obama so much and a very clever move to go to Berlin !

PS: I'm not German :D

I always enjoy reading the posts of non-Americans who think they are experts of all things American. Most of you don't have a clue about the internal dynamics of American society and get all your knowledge from the media (heaven help you). The vast majority of non-American posters know as much about the United States as they do about Thailand and that is dick-all.

That's how much you know Farang Prince... You are talking to a whole generation of non Americans who were raised on F-Troop, The Brady Bunch, Days of our Lives (Our ex wives used to watch it, not us) and the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

HOW COULD WE NOT KNOW ABOUT AMERICA!!

Your country has sold itself like Nana Plaza hooker and you have no secrets from the world.

Every time I'm confused by some thing American I just turn to my DVD collection. Hollywood has all the answers. ("The Chronicles of Riddock" are particularly helpful). :o

I feel so sorry for you. That is like me learning all about the U.K. from watching Monty Python or Fawty Towers.

In all honesty, I do not think most americans know phk all about their country's, internal dynamics, as you put it.

Many Brits seem to have a lot in common with Mr. Bean, but they talk more. :o

They pretty much cover many areas of Britain, but I'd add some Alan PArtridge to the syllabus

Boppers,

Influenced by Sceadunga new thread in Bedlam, I looked up my (user)name on Youtube and came across this little gem, by a fifteen yr. old Kayo. It conveniently is about change with the upcoming elections.

Obama Rap

Paricularly touching, is how he raps about how hard is 15 year old life is, but then.. More than half his life he's had W. in power.

I think that Monty Python and Fawlty Towers is an excellent guide to those who are unfortunate enough to come from the UK.

To find out what people of my nationality are really like I suggest watching the Crocodile Dundee movies, Kylie Minogue videos and Australian Rules football games.

Well, fortunately I have been to your country many times so I can attest to the fact that there is more to Oz than Crocodile Dundee movies and Australian Rules football. Now Kylie Minogue videos...that's a different thing. Still, Australia is a quaint land. Any country that can export Olivia Newton-John and AC/DC in the same decade is diversified to the extreme.

Now this is a good point. What the next pres does might have us and Russia at each others necks.

Nice to see you're still here Kayo. I have been so busy as of late I never know what day it even is.

Alright, let me reask the question in this fashion......What are one or two things that you would like to see America change that you believe will have a real impact globally?

The US should legalize both drugs and prostitution, but they won't. :o

Or any other anally retentive Western country General, women have 50% of the vote and get very emotional at the thought of legal drugs and legal prostitution.

This is dangerously leftist thinking anyway. :o

in answer to Bops question, I'd really like to see America butt out of other peoples affairs.

You get a bunch of people escape to the new world to get away from the rest of the world, and almost immediately they start telling others how to do things.

Without having done any research for this post, but my mind springs back to the U.S.-led creation of the country now known as Panama, in order to get their hands on the Canal (that was in process).

This was rightfully Colombia's land.

Anyway, it's only gotten worse in the past hundred+ years,

I equate the US with some pimply faced University Graduate, who thinks because his balls have dropped and he's got a piece of paper stating he's "grown-up" that he can enter an established "company" (the world) and tell it how to go about it's business.

grr....

(i'm in a hurry, sorry)

So the US butts out and someone else moves in.

My home state is in the process of outlawing bikie gangs at the moment for their drug dealing activities. The police lock them up every time they double park or spit on the side walk so the Middle Eastern immigrant gangs are muscling them out and taking over.

Nature abhors a vacuum.

Personally I don't think the US do too bad a job of running a world empire. The Brits were marginally better because they actually moved into the colonies and improved infrastructure and local education whereas the US tends to rely on the "5% of the population ruling the other 95%" system.

So who would you offer world domination to?

Russia has a really bad record under both the Czars and the Soviets, Putin isn't likely to improve on it.

China? They really don't like the rest of the world.

And don't say leave everyone to their own devices because that's when you get people like Genghis Khan and Attila the Hun turning up on your doorstep.

Hear, here.

For all of the b*tching and whining, pretty much everyone with half a brain rather have the U.S. be the policeman than anyone else who is eligible and, as sceadugenga insinuated, someone has to do it. :o
