Unforunetly my wife's mother passed away a few days ago. I'm flying out to Bangkok on Thursday and arriving around 11:00 pm Friday. I have a flight booked to Khon Kaen at 6:15 am from Don Muang. I was wondering if anyone has some ideas how I can kill some time in between flights. Preferably something that won't put me to sleep as I usually get very little sleep on flights. Is there somewhere safe I can stash my luggage for a few hours? Also I saw someone mention in another post that Don Muang closes at night, so I guess I should hang out in suvarnabhumi? What time does Don Muang open? I also read there is a shuttle going to Don Muang, but will it be running in the middle of the night?

What are some things I can do / say to my wife's family to show my sympathy and condolances? I believe they are having the funeral at the temple on wednesday, so before I will be there.

That's a long night. If I wanted to arrive sober, I would take a cab to one of the hotels around Don Muang and get 4 hours sleep. I've stayed at the Asia Hotel and Comfort Inn. There are cheaper places, but I would pay for some sleep myself. The Amari Don Muang used to have a 4 or 6 hour rate, but it was terribly expensive. I don't know if they have come down since losing their crown seat.

Option #2, take a cab to Soi Cowboy. Have a beer and get a short time room at the Penny Black for 300 baht. I am not encouraging any running on the wife here, simply an option.

As far as what to get the family, I would tell the family, the wife and you want to take some food to the monks one morning. A small contribution to the temple is fine too, in the family's name. Sorry about Paa. You're being there will greatly increase your currency as a good, serious guy. Best of luck.

I like option 2 haha. However, I think I'll wait a few hours and have a much better short time with my wife :D hehe. I think I'm gonna try and pass out on the plane for quite a while so I can get some good sleep before ariving. Anywhere to have a few beers in or near suvarnabumi? I dont really want to be dragging my luggage into some bar in bangkok either. As far as sleeping a few hours in a hotel, it hardly seems worth it. I gotta check in at Don Muang before 5am, and by the time I clear customs in bkk it will be near midnight. Probably would only get 3 hours of sleep by the time I got my room and Im afraid I wouldnt wake up in time.

edit - I just re-read your post and now I realize you were just mentioning getting a room to crash for a few hours. Haha I thought you were implying something else :o

Why not take a bus from the Airport terminal to Kon Ken?

At the time your plane departs, you would be there already.

News to me.

Thought you had to go to Morshit. (SP :o )

A massage after a long flight might be nice and it would kill a couple hours. It is also very likely that they would be willing to hold on to your luggage afterwards for a couple hours if you ask nicely. Now you just have a few hours to kill and no baggage to carry, free to do what suits you such as a couple drinks, a meal, a long walk, etc.
