Crime CIB Nabs Fugitive Gold Snatcher After 12 Years on the Run
Picture courtesy of CIB Officers from The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested a man who had been evading capture for more than 12 years after allegedly snatching a gold necklace while riding a borrowed motorcycle. The arrest was made by the Special Operations Division of the CIB. The suspect, identified as Mr. Chatree aged 39, was apprehended outside a residence in Moo 5, Phra Khao Subdistrict, Bang Ban District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. He faces charges of “snatching property using a vehicle to facilitate the offence, escape or conceal the stolen property.” The crime occurred on 12 July 2013, when a lone assailant riding a motorcycle approached a victim from behind and violently grabbed a gold necklace along with a gold-framed amulet pendant. The perpetrator then fled the scene. Upon reporting the incident to local police, the victim was shown CCTV footage, which identified Mr. Chatree as the assailant. The owner of the motorcycle confirmed that Mr. Chatree had borrowed the vehicle at the time of the crime. A court subsequently issued an arrest warrant for him. Despite the warrant, Mr. Chatree managed to avoid capture for more than a decade. Investigators eventually tracked him to a remote location in Bang Ban District, where he had been living under the radar. Acting on this intelligence, officers moved in and identified him outside an unnumbered house in Moo 5. The police team presented the arrest warrant, informed the suspect of his legal rights, and took him into custody without resistance. He was then handed over to investigators at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station for prosecution in accordance with the law. Adapted by Asean Now from CIB 2025-07-10 -

Two villagers in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province, have died and several others have fallen ill after consuming larb dib, a traditional dish made with raw or undercooked pork. Health officials have confirmed that the illness was caused by a deadly bacteria often associated with the consumption of contaminated pork.
