I have heard so much about visas for Thailand and I am very confused!

I am an 18 year old, British citizen.

I am flying into Bangkok on 11th April 2005, travelling overland through Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and then back to Thailand to fly out of Bangkok on 3rd July.

I know you can get a tourist visa for 30 days when you fly into Thailand, can I also get one of these on the border when I come back into Thailand overland? I will not be in Thailand for longer than 30 days on each occasion, so could I just get two 30 day tourist visas, or is it more complicated than that? I read somewhere that you have to have a flight leaving Thailand, is this true? I also read stuff about a multiple entry visa.

I am really confused which one I will need. I don't want to get stuck in Thailand!

Jess,

In theory you need an onward air ticket in order to qualify for the 30 day stamp on arrival but it is very rare for people to be asked by immigration in Thailand to show this. However, it is also feasible that the airline with which you fly may not allow you to board if you don't have an onward flight within 30 days. You can get a 30-day stamp when entering the country through a land border, so that's no problem as, presumably, your air ticket will then show an onward flight within 30 days . Perhaps for absolute peace of mind get a double-entry tourist visa from the Thai embassy in London or one of the consulates dotted around the UK. For 2 entries the cost will be £50. Or perhaps a single entry and for your 2nd entry to Thailand get one of the 30-day stamps.

Scouse.

Hi Jess,

If you have a return ticket out of Bangkok you will have no problems. You will need to obtain a visa from your nearest Thai consulate in the U.K. only if you are arriving in Bangkok with a oneway ticket. A visa can be obtained upon re-entry into Thailand from Cambodia just the same as it is when you land in Bangkok.

A single entry tourist visa from the UK will solve his problems.
