Depo-provera

Featured Replies

Hey

I will be staying in thailand for between 9 and 10 months and i've been on the Depo-provera injection for the past 4 years. I'm on this injection primarily to halt my periods as i find it impossible to leave the house for 1 week of the month if i have them. My doctor has told me to skip my injection and get the implant instead, but this option really isn't appealing to me!

So my questions are, how easy is it to get the Depo in Thailand or is another brand used? Does anyone know if it will have the same effect if a different brand is used? And how much do the doctors charge for this? I'm really not sure what to do, and my doctor isn't willing to give me any prepared syringes to take with me (maybe because of the shelf life of the drug?).

Thanks for your help!

Natasha

I had these for several years & got the injection done at a local pharmacy in Samui. Had a bunch of issues once stopped but that's a whole other story but yes, is avaiable & same name from pharmacies or go to any doctors open surgery. Don't know the price anymore. sorry. :o

Widely available and cheaper than back home, exact same drug. Any clinic or governemtn health center can provide it for you.

Should you change your mind about implants you can get them here too and at loss cost than at home.

Thanks for asking the question.I never even thought about depo being over here. Was on it for many years at home and now every month is a pain with the periods back.

I have no problems getting my depo jabs here. First time, I just walked into my local hospital asked for a doctor's appointment and wrote depo-provera on a piece of paper. I think it cost 200 or 300 baht, which is next to nothing - particularly compared with the price of tampons!

I didn't realise you could get them done at a pharmacy too. Might try that next time.
