Live In Thailand, Work For Overseas Business

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I might end up being employed by a New Zealand company and paid by them in NZ$ into my NZ bank account, and pay NZ tax, but live in Thailand. I would be working as their overseas agent, buying goods to export back to them.

So I'm not being paid anything in Thailand, but I am working and making (overseas) money.

What sort of visas do I need to legally do this? Can I somehow apply still for a non-immigrant B and work permit? It would be great not to still have to do monthly visa runs.

I'm 24, and NZ is my nationality obviously.

Thanks,

Josh

Non immigrant visa

Yes. form a company.

It would be great not to still have to do monthly visa runs.

And safer if you will be working here on a visitor visa.

Tax issues to be aware of

I'm sure your accountant is up to speed on these issues, but above is a link to the important matters to be aware of, or better yet, potentially take advantage of.

You need to be employed by a Thai company. Your NZL company should look into establishing a Thai subsidiary if you wish to be fully "legal". And be aware of tax treaties.

You may also wish to liase with the NZL-Thai Chamber of Commerce and TradeNZ.

Thanks all for all the info. However it seems like a huge effort for a small operation, and sadly it turns out there is no money in it anyways. Just wanted to say thanks all the same.
