Replace Railings With Wall

Recommended Posts

I have a house which is surronded by about 40% wall and 60% railings

I would like to get the railings taken out and replced by the same type of wall already built

The railings are set into cocrete about 20cm high Could the railings be taken out and the wall buit on top or would new foundations need ot be built

I dont know the correct title for the type of wall but it is the typical Thai wall made of blocks and each section surrounded by a Concrete 'frame' all just over 1 metre high

Also any idea what the cost per metre would be approx

Cheers

If you have the standard post and beam construction that the railings are mounted onto then it may be possible.

Really need to see a picture to answer correctly tough, also need to know it there is steel inside the the posts and beams if they exist.

You have the beam at ground level but it looks like the post (sow poon) has been cut off to mount the railing post.

The contractor will have to cut off the steel railing post then dig into the concrete beam to find the steel inside. He will then have to weld a square upright steel core to the beam steel and cast a new post. The space in between is then filled with block and a further beam cast along the top of the blocks.

It would be nice if the steel post is welded to the steel inside the beam in which case maybe you can use that as the core of your sow poon.

I have no idea how much the job would cost, should not be too much. A new wall 2mtrs high should run from 1500 baht to 2000 baht a linear meter.
