Can anyone tell me the procedure and documentation required for buying a motorbike in my name as I’m thinking of buying a new Honda click.

I have a valid one year retirement visa.

I hear I need a residence certificate if that is the case can anyone tell me how long it’s valid for.

I am a British subject (English) living on the outskirks of Pattaya.

Does nationality come into buying a motorbike in my own name?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You leave me confused about the length of validity of the residence certificate with suggestions ranging from - 14 days - until my visa runs out - 2 weeks.

I’ll check the validity out with Pattaya immigration and post the answer.

What i do know is it costs 200 baht at Pattaya immigration to process a request for a residence certificate.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My original question was: What documents do i need (In addition to) the residence certificate to buy a motorbike in my name?

Once I’m done I’ll post the documentation requirements on this site for reference.

Thing is your asking for absolutes in a country where every office wants different things and accepts different times.

Docs..

If Farang -

Passport back page (ID part)

Passport Visa stamp

Passport entry stap and card

If Thai-

Copy of any official ID, gov card or passport.

Proof of residence

- If Farang then work permit OR letter from embassy or proof from immigration.. Maybe accepted yellow house book but heard some wont.

- If Thai a tabien baan in the province of the registration.

The bike book

The transfer of ownership

If the seller doesnt come with you to visually sign there and ten you also need the power of attorney form allowing his signature to be done remotely.

The passport stuff for both buyer and seller, I have never had to show a sellers proof of residence for either farang or Thai.

If you are here on Visa exempt I doubt you can register it.

Your Nationality is only important if you are American - because the US consulate will issue you a paper certifying where you live (for 1020 baht).

I am with LivinLOS - said letter would be valid 14 days.
