It's complex but I think it will just be more and more of the same. There will be more and more impoverished people with high birth rates while developed countries hold down birth rates and the impoverished will become more impoverished.

Already today 2.6 billion people live on less than $2 per day, and 1.44 billion on less than $1.25 per day. These countries are shooting themselves in the foot with high birth rates. They also wind up with high disease rates and short life expectancies. I think it will just get worse for them.

I think it will be noticed less in first world countries which are learning to grow more food on less land and with less energy, and learning to become more energy efficient, while the "backward" countries continue to go backward.

I read today about the grim facts of Southern Europe. Greece wont meet it's agreed targets, Italy is on the verge of the point of no return in it's debt burden. Portugal and Spain also have big problems such as affording the cost to borrow. The lazy tax dodgers I don't feel sorry for but there could be another global shock. I feel lucky that I work for a US company but is anyone really safe?

Pimco's Bill Gross said himself that they expect (estimated odds of 60%) another recession within the next 5 years.

Masry and the rebels not only gained the cooperation of the army, but also of the police and the recently snubbed judicial system.

Then they received “individual communications between Tamarod people and state institutions.”

Finally there was the funding, both internally and externally.

The Times details how former judge Tahani el-Gebali, former adviser Shawki al-Sayed, and Naguib Sawiris, a billionaire and an outspoken foe of the Brotherhood, all pitched in cash and organizing efforts to wear at the base of the Morsi regime.

And just this week, an Al Jazeera exclusive from Emad Mekay exposed how Washington had funneled money to secular opposition groups in Egypt:

Documents obtained by the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley show the US channeled funding ... [that] ... vigorously supported activists and politicians who have fomented unrest in Egypt, after autocratic president Hosni Mubarak was ousted in a popular uprising in February 2011.

Except that Morsi's moves to consolidate power and install Sharia Law began almost as soon as he took office. His concerns, it seemed, focused more on telling women how to talk to their husbands than with rebuilding Egypt.

This is Egypt but the same methods of chaos and crises to achieve political and economic ends has been used again and again. The Arab spring, the fall of the Soviet Union, the breaking of the labour unions in the UK and discounted sales of state assets to private companies is similar to what we have now in Southern Europe, the numerous examples of intervention in South America. Reading the "Confessions of an economic hit man" or watching "the money masters" would be good starting places for anyone still believing the mainstream propaganda. The merit in the results of the actions are debatable certainly. The world is but a tussle of powerful groups anyway and maybe some winning are better than others and it all depends on who's shoes ones standing in of course. Like some moderate Syrian rebels are now finding out the lesser evil sometimes the preferable option - ie the lunatic Islamists they are now in bed with are proving worse than the regime they set out to overthrow.

Personally I'm doing ok so I'm not too worked up about things either way. But I think if one wants to think how this financial crises might unfold then its worth thinking first about who holds the key positions of power, who is behind them and what their primary interests are. So to discount and deny the influence of Goldman Sacks, the other too big to fail/ jail banks or their shadowy backers is really doing yourselves out of as critical a consideration factor for the likely future price movements in markets. I am pointing out that policies of investment in industry, good salaries as stimulus and state support for families and child support to increase the population and its consumption and economic wealth production proved very successful in pulling Germany out of their financial crises / depression and war reparations situation of the day. The war reparations could be viewed as the bailout money's of today's Med countries and thier economic depression the result of economic policies decided abroad and administered by local puppets. The med countries would do well to put national interests first in my opinion and withdraw from the euro, let thier currencies fall, begin exports and invest in related national services (for the strength of the nation as a whole rather than the union workers of such state companies as it was most recently- could take Singapore or the British empire, east India company or today's communist china as examples of what I am talking about. I'd prescribe this kind of National Social Capitalist system for the UK as well. Nothing racist about it.

Ideas for what is a sensible immigration policy are quite separate. I'd say allow any people bringing investment or needed skills; but close the door to refugees and the unskilled, uneducated masses. Simply mathematical sense, not any racist agenda. People already here should be put to work and benefits reduced enough to make work appealing before thinking about letting in any more unskilled people.

National socialism as an economic system is perfectly valid as an economic model for debate; only my preferred model would have a higher emphasis on supporting/ creating an unburdensome environment for Small and medium sized private businessto flourish, while the strategically important large biz such as power generation, other utilities, defence, banks and such should be run for the benefit and strength of the nation.

Today's disappointing U.S. retail sales report is sending shockwaves across Wall Street's economics departments.

"The disappointing 0.4% m/m rise in US retail sales values in June increases the chances that GDP grew at an annualised rate of less than 1% in the second quarter," said Capital Economics' Paul Dales.

Barclays just cut its Q2 GDP growth tracking estimate to 0.5% from 0.6%, reports CNBC's Bob Pisani.

According to Zero Hedge, Goldman Sachs cut its GDP forecast to 1.0% from 1.3%.

"Today's number complicates Q2 GDP estimates," tweeted BTIG's Dan Greenhaus. "Q2 should be less than 1.0%, the second time in 3 qtrs GDP is less than 1.0%. That's not very good."

Skylon, a revolutionary UK spacecraft which could take adventurers to Earths stratosphere in just 15 minutes or fly travelers to Australia in four hours, will get $90 million from the government. The challenge is to cut the cost of space travel.

Skylon boasts a hybrid jet-rocket engine, SABRE (Synergistic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine), capable of blasting into low earth orbit. It takes off from a standard runway before accelerating to speeds of 19,000 miles per hour.

The Minister for Universities and Science says SABRE has the potential to completely transform how we access space.

By supporting this breakthrough technology we are giving the UK a leading position in a growing market of new generation launchers and removing one of the main barriers to the growth of commercial activity in space, David Willetts told the Telegraph.

The minister is expected to share more details about the project at the UK Space Conference in Glasgow, which runs until Wednesday.

The founder of Reaction Engines, Alan Bond, has received the go-ahead from the chancellor George Osborne to construct the 3,500mph rocket.

Unlike conventional aircraft engines, SABRE switches in flight to become a rocket engine that can boost Skylon to a speed faster than Mach 5, or more than five times the speed of sound, according to icarusinterstellar.org. After take-off, SABRE mixes hydrogen with air it sucks in, after which it switches to rocket mode, using oxygen carried in its own tanks to accelerate into space.

The breakthrough in the engines technology is that SABRE engineers can cool the incoming airstream from a temperature of over 1,000 C to -150 C in less than a hundredth of a second without the engine frosting up.

Skylons 82-metre long fuselage will be built from carbon-fiber reinforced plastic with a black ceramic skin to protect against the heat of re-entry. It will be powered by two SABRE engines.

Osborne's decision to invest in the Sabre engine was boosted by a hundred successful test runs and a study by the European Space Agency to validate the design.

It is hoped that Skylon could cut the launch expenditures by over 95%, bringing the cost of space travel in line with aviation.

As things stand now, its only competitor these days is Richard Bransons Virgin Galactic, which offers six-minutes-of-weightlessness-trips for $182,000. The challenge for Skylon is to reduce this price.
