Baht To Continue Depreciating

Baht to continue depreciating

BANGKOK: -- The baht is likely to continue depreciating for a time, and this would benefit exporters, Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij said on Friday.

However the minister warned that the current account balance needed close monitoring over the long term as imports had shrunk more than exports.

Mr Korn said once the economy gains stability during the latter part of this year imports and exportation should increase, resulting in a boon to the economy.

The Bangkok Bank reports the baht started trade at 36.06/08 baht/US dollar on Friday morning, depreciating from the previous day's market closing price of 35.95/98 baht/dollar.

as imports had shrunk more than exports

I'm no economist but surely that's a good thing.

Sorry but 0.3% depreciation a party does not make. Well no party I'd go to.

It has been a slow but rather steady increase over the last 11 months, an increase of twelve percent on the dollar. My European and especially my UK friends have lost against the baht.

sweet [wet] dreams! :o

Baht to the future

IMHO when the Bank of Thailnd catches up with the credit meltdown well see the Baht

c$38-40 to US

5o-53 euro and

57-60 to pound

The real winner will be the PRC Kwai c 5 baht but soon to be nearer 6 as the RMB floats up on a ratchet controlled by Walmart and the Central Bank of China

Vamos a ver
