You may have noticed that i have been quite quiet on this topic for a few days, it's because I have been suss of something, but I didn't get it confirmed until a few hours ago. I'm doing the DJ thing at the moment so Have no time..... I'll tell more later.

Took Gow back to her parents on Friday and was greeted by the usual dozen or so close family members and associated children, and food, lots of food, I've done this before, but it is still quite intimidating, when the food runs out, the crowd tends to thin out a bit and you can then get to chat with the main players of the scene (Scouse Steve is loving it as he isn't the one under the microscope and I had given him the car keys so that he could sit in it with the air-con turned on while I fried)

Papa was fairly distant, repairing speaker units, as that is what he does, Mama was more welcoming, and anyone who has spent any time in Isaan knows, when it comes to family matters, Mama calls the shots.

So we get down to the nitty gritty. Mama says that she is happy for me to visit Gow any time I want, and she is Ok with Gow coming to see me in Ban Kruat during school breaks...... no problem there, but she really wants Gow to finish school... no problems, everone happy.

What Mama really said didn't register at the time, neither did it register when I got home (it was a long drive) but when I woke up the next morning I had one of those 'did I hear that right' moments.

I called Gai (Steves wife in case you had forgotten) and told her that we need to talk that night, which we did, and she called Gow this morning (yesterday now) .... and I was right...... Gow had lied about her age to get the job here..... when Mama said that she wanter her to finish school, she said that she wanted her to finish M5/Mayatom Hah/Grade Five at least.

She's only sixteen years old.

An 18 year old girlfriend is a concept that I may just about have been able to cope with, but 16, no wucking fay..... it's very flattering to have a very, nay extremely attractive teenager having a crush on you, but that's all it is, it's just a crush ... it'll pass .... and so will I.

I'm lighting that other cigarette now.

16 fark.....you know what I think so I wont say it again but I agree with the sentiment in your last paragraph wholeheartedly.

I still also question the motives behind a family willing to allow a girl this young to start a relationship with an older foreign man. They may not have said what it is yet (and it may not even be monetary) but I maintain that an expectation, you are not prepared or able to meet, will be forthcoming if this thing was to go ahead.

Cheers Tots, not a blog, but the veritable Jet Gorgon did persuaded me to write a book some time back.... it was going well until my iMac died, the drive is in Mac format, so I was going to buy a new one, until the exchange rate ended up in the toilet.... and yep, I didn't make a back-up.

These days I might have a fling with someone in his 20s- and I don't like to say never- but they'd need to be on the high side of 25 and especially mature & bright & well-employed (especially well-employed) for me to consider relationship stuff anymore with someone under 30. What're you going to talk about & how are you going to relate to someone who isn't closer to your match upstairs- and, if I may say so, for you that's quite an impressive match to expect someone to make anyway?

I can't here, I could barely do that in the UK, the ex-pats I know start to flounder when the conversation goes beyond how many fish they caught today and the difference in gestation periods for chicken eggs over duck eggs.... the nights can be so riveting, sometimes I can barely tear myself away from the table.

I can spend hours being surrounded by people, but still feel very alone.... that's fine, I'm perfectly happy with my own company, I have some of my best conversations that way ...... I've resigned myself to the fact that the best bet I have for a stimulating conversation is going to happen right here.

If someone put my pic across the internet without my permission, I would be hacked off.

You have put a name, a part biography and now a face to a fairly anonymous story.

She is 16, obviously impressionable, by your own admission being manipulated and people who might not know who the girl is, now can possibly link story to the individual.

If someone put my 19 year old daughter on the internet without her say so, I would be even more hacked off.

This forum is certainly not private, before that rubbish gets thrown up.

One further thing I would ask is why would you post her pic, what does it accentuate, accept to massage your own ego, why would you do that to an adolescent?

Actually, I agree. Its an invasion of the girls personal privacy. Not only do we have a name (assuming you used her real name) but a location and a face. If it were me, I would not be happy. But, you know what? The decision really is up to you. Next time you see her please be sure to let her know that you've put her pic, her name and her location up on the internet. I am sure she'll love it.

Good call Thad. Only just caught up to this thread now (scanned this last page), but you really don't want to give anybody the opportunity to use stuff like that against you, no matter what your initial intentions where.

Not sure if 'great' is the right word, but the whole thread was a lot more interesting than what you usually find.

At this stage I am not entirely sure whether you are calling me ignorant as a person, or ignorant of the situation?

In relation to the situation, I have followed the thread from its inception and found it mildly entertaining, I would suggest I have not judged, nor moralised on the situation, although I guess you could surmise I did raise an eye brow or two.

As for my good self, if you choose to call me ignorant as a person, well so be it, I have been called worse.

As for taking the moral high ground, I have never suggested your original actions were beyond the Pale, I just intimated caution was perhaps your best friend, ally and alternative.

My objection was to the posting of the pictures, whereby a name, a brief biography and then a picture could easily identify the person involved.
