Nazi Sympathizing/hitler Loving Expats In Thailand

Featured Replies

Since I started coming to Thailand, being American, I have noticed more Nazi sympathizers here than I would prefer to notice. None would be ideal.

Aside from older Germans and Austrians who actually were/are Nazis and will be dead soon, has anyone else noticed this? I am referring mostly to sentiments like: hitler did lots of good things and also of course garden variety European antisemitism.

What are your observations about the extent of this sickness among expats in Thailand?

For example, portraits of Hitler on Walking Street. Who buys this indeed?

Visit of the Santi Gallery in Walking Street 309/1. The exhibition room drifts from the street into the building like a deep tunnel. Here, you find copies of pictures by an August Macke, a Rembrandt or even an Albrecht Dürer. Much to my surprise, however, the wall is also adorned with a number of portraits of the ‘foremost commander in history’ – adolf hitler, who is shown once in unostentatious civilian attire, but also wearing a brown uniform with a swastika armband standing at a lectern. The surprise leaves me so speechless I even forget to ask the gallery owner what something like that might cost and most of all who buys something like this!

I am not talking about how Thais use Nazi symbols as fashion in ignorance of the true meaning behind it. I am talking about white expats who should know better.

They’re all here in Thailand.

Neo Nazis, child molesters, pimps, criminals, visa dodgers, fugitives, scammers and other assorted dross.

But please don’t take it to heart. Just do what everyone else does, keep your head down, create your own selected social circle of friends and associates, get on with your own business and stay cool.
