Help Needed Urgently!

Greetings and Salutations!

I am in need of help.. My GF is from Udon Thani and she has just fractured her leg here in singapore. She was discharged yesterday against the doc's advice as we have decided to manage her leg in thailand instead, preferably in Udon where she is from (as being a non-resident here in singapore we would be left with an astronomical bill of about 8000 sgd upwards..)

I would appreciate it if someone with any experience of this type of surgical operation would share with me the costs involved over in thailand..

She has a Left Distal tib-fib fracture (closed). XR L ankle: Undisplaced fracture of the distal fibula; Spiral fracture of the tibia shaft..

Right now she is resting at home with a backslab (half cast) and in a lot of pain..

The best option would be to hurry her back to thailand but i'm still looking for funds to do this operation..

If anyone could help I would have a better idea of how much money I should bring with me over there, right now i'm in a very distressed situation..

Thanks.

Try the Udonthani web site for the following hospital for a quote relating to your needs. ( AEK Udon Hospital )

[email protected] or [email protected]

Earmark it for the associate manager Kanjana Suwunnakasem of international services.

Good luck

If she is a locally registered citizen of Udon there is always the Government hospital which incidently uses the same specialist that service the private ones.

If she has a 30 baht medical card then it should all be free op and medication, other than that just medication costs

Not sure if Tiger airlines are still operating a direct flight to Udon from Singers ?

Im sorry to hear this.

Does your g/f have friends and family in Udon? If so, is it possible for them to call the hospitals up and find out for you. Then contact you back.

That sounds very serious.

I'm not sure AEK has a orthopedist qualified to handle such an extensive injury. They will say they do, but...

If I was in the same situation as you, I would contact Bumrungrad Hospital: http://www.bumrungrad.com/

She can always come back to Udon to recuperate.

Wow.

I hope that everything works out ok for the girlfriend.

To everyone else...

Let this be a lesson on taking out travel insurance. Accidents can and do happen.

Ok I will try this route shortly...I think the only airline that flies direct to Udon is Thai.... Thanks for the info

Yeah her mum is pestering her to hurry on back to see the local witch doctor..Right now she's being a right pain in the neck as she wants to follow her mom's advice and saying that she doesnt want my money and all that lol..

What i fear is that without any outside financial help she will take the wrong decision and end up suffering the rest of her days..

Well right now i'm leaning towards this option as i am suffering abuse as well for taking responsibility for this whole mess..

Her mom was telling her on the phone that she should not eat chicken and now she blames me for giving her chicken and eggs the past 2 days...

Dr.Panich at AEK is a very good orthopedic surgeon. Also, Udon hospital and the military hospital have qualified orthopedic surgeons.

Bit of advise, check with the airline as some airlines will not let you fly without a doctors note, in case of DVT with a leg injury, this happened to myself last october.

My flight was a long haul London-Bangers so you maybe ok, but worth checking it out.

I've got the doctor's memo so should not be a problem...Thanks

She is obviously stressed out and yes you are gonna kop all the grief.

I just hope she is worth it my friend.Never heard about the eating chicken thing though!

Of course the girl is stressed, you would be too if you were sitting around with a broken leg and not having medical treatment. The girl is oviously in your care and therefore your responsibility. It needs to be sorted and quickly.

With due respect.

I gave the AEK Udon hospital reference based on my personal experience relating to a horrific accident my daughter had at school.

Briefly her upper arm bone snapped and was protruding out in an horrific fashion arm, it was not a clean break but shattered.

The specialist concerned is well reknowned as an Orthopedist Surgeon and was trained in the US and worked there over several years.

You may be able to email him direct for his opinion via the AEK web site i posted.

Dr Pinijv is the specialist.

He reconstructed, pinned and plated her bones back together and 12 months later did the follow up operation to remove them.

It was a complete success and my daughter has no disability what so ever thanks to the brilliant and skilled work of this surgeon.

What a lovely gentleman he is to top his reputation off.

Thank you

Unfortunately Tiger Airways stopped the Singapore-Udon route last year.

Air Asia,Nok Air and Thai Airways all fly to Udon from Bangkok.

Initially I would try the Military Hospital as she will get the operation for free if she has a Medical Card.

Failing that try the AEK or Paolo who will have qualified orthopedists.

Perhaps, AEK's Orthopedist is a skilled surgeon? I don't know, since I have never needed his services. But, it is good to know, in case I ever do...

I have been 80% satisfied with AEK's service over the years. However, I have never needed the services of a specialist at AEK until recently...

My comment: ' They will say they do, but...', had to do with my recent gastrointestinal problems.

I don't want to take this thread off topic by writing about my recent gastrointestinal problems. So, sheff_mick, if you are interested in my experience at AEK in regard to my gastrointestinal problems. PM me and I will reply with my experience.

Hopefully the OP has got his girlfriends medical issues sorted out.

No sarcasm intended MJ on my reply re the specialist.

Why not open a new thread and share your experience with our membership to enable everyone to benefit and learn somwthing from it.

Thanks MJ for bringing the gastrointestinal problems up.

I alway use the hospital as a rule and recently was treated for the dreaded Degue Fever...no complaints that i can justify on this experience either.

It,s always best to know both the positives and the negatives and i,m with you on this one re awareness ect.

The more members share the better from my point of view.

Thank you

I would be very careful of letting your gf to fly. There is a possibility that ther iar pressure from the flight could vastly increase her pain, without worrying about a dvt which is potential life threatening and extremley painful and takes ages to regain health

Hi,Dopey.

give me a bit of background ,allthough it may not seem to make sense.

Your girlfriend is from udon, right ?

she is in singapore ? with who?

You are in farangland?

Have you seen the xrays or spoken directly with the hospital?

Yes I was thinking the same thing too.

Dopey says she is "resting at home" so I'm asuming she lives in Singapore.

If she is living in Singapore I assume she is working there? It is Singapore law that all foriegn workers must have medical cover.

Does she have a return ticket to Thailand?

What is her family doing about helping? (other than telling her not to eat chicken).

It sounds like it should be a joint financial effort.

I hope all works out for you.

I can only think to suggest you try emailing or phoning Bumrungrad. Basically I'm kicking this hoping she gets better. My buddy's kid did that racing bikes and it was ugly. Good luck to you both.
