Staying Longer Than 30 Days

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me I just arrived in Thailand on 14th MArch and got a 30 day entry visa so its due on 12th April. I'm 44 and travelling on a UK passport. What is my best option for an extension? I am living on Koh Tao so is it best for me to go to Ranong Burma or to Penang Malaysia? How long is the extension for? Any help gratefully appreciated. Oh and do you think it wise to book the trip early as its so close to SongkranThanks.

If you cross the border and come back again you will get another 15 days at a land border and 30 days at an airport.

From where you are most go to Ranong/Burma or Sadoa or Pedang Bessar/Malaysia.

If you go to Penang you can go to the Thai Consulate and get a 60 day Tourist Visa. They are free at the moment.

You can get a 7-day extension from any immigration office.

You can get a tourist visa in Penang, don't know about Burma but it should also be possible. It is free of charge at the moment and until the beginning of June. Please not that the Thai consulates in Malaysia observe both the Thai and the Malaysian holidays, so please check on that as Songkran is a holiday of probably several days, apparently 13-15 April. Don’t know about Malaysian holidays but you can search the web for them.

For Thai holidays, see this calendar:

I have friends in the same predicament. They are going to Ranong to get the extra 14 days but wish to know if it is then possible to go to an Immigration office and get another 7 days on top of the 14.

Or is the 14 days all they can have.

Be grateful for advice.

Many thanks

They can cross to Burma and get 15 days.

They can then go to Immigration and get 7 days if they have a flight ticket leaving Thailand within those 7 days. Fee 1,900 Baht.

They can always go to a Thai Consulate and get a Tourist Visa giving them 60 days free of charge untill 4th June.

Thanks for quick reply. From Phuket they can always fly Air Asia to KL and back in the same day for about 2000 Baht. That would give them the 30 days they want and no 10 hr round trip in a mini van to Ranong.

Much appreciated.
