george Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 NE residents warned of thunder, hail storms The Meteorological Department Monday warned residents of northeastern to brace themselves for possible thunder and hail storms Monday and Tuesday. In its daily forecast issued at 4 am, the department said the high pressure mass from China is moving down to cover Vietnam and the northeaster region of Thailand, resulting in thunder and hail storms Monday and Tuesday. The forecast said 40 per cent of Bangkok areas would be hit by rains. The city would see mercury rise to 35 to 36 Celsius degree at the peak of the temperature during the day. -- The Nation 2009-04-06
Thaddeus Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Hail storms!!!! If that happens here, I forecast a spectacular rise in the sales of amulets.
Farma Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Don’t know about amulets but I know one guy who’s looking for a new display case to replace the one smashed by hail a week ago to the south of Sisaket. He had it on the footpath in front of his shop when the hail storm came through.
Thaddeus Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Did this piece of ice have a hole through the middle of it? Seriously, I've never heard of hail in Thailand further south than Chang Mai.
Farma Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I had to ask twice when I was told. It was a fierce short storm accompanied by lightning mid morning 2 Sundays ago. The lightning hit a transformer close by, the hail smashed a display case a few doors up from us and by all accounts there was “lots of ice”.
