Drivers License For Thai Citizen W/ Foreign Dl

My girlfriend learned to drive here on Saipan and has a local driver's license. We're moving to Thailand in April. If she got an International Driving Permit would she be able to get a Thai drivers's license without having to take the tests?

My wife did, based on a US license and IDP. If you search, there are earlier threads describing the current requirements and procedures including the physical tests that are now performed. The procedure is no different for Thais except of course that they use their house registration, i.e. what is on their Thai ID card, instead of an embassy notarized assertion of their address.

Thank you, I wasn't sure if the IDP option applied to Thai nationals. I was just about to send off for my IDP. Now I'll enclose an application for her as well.
