Old Mercedes With New Engines

Featured Replies

I want to buy an old mercedes in thailand. I believe they usually have newer Japanese engines put into them. Has anyone any idea where i can get this done and how much it costs. Also can you have new disc brakes put onto older cars as well as modern A/C. Basically I want an old exterior with all the modern conveniences.

Yes i know that to some this is sacriledge but I don't want to have a old motor here that doesn't work reliably.

Any help apreciated.

In my opinion, don't buy one and change the engine. You'll get a lot of headache and it's timewasting. If you like cars like this (same as me), buy a Merc, where they changed the engine already. I recommend one with a 1JZ or 2 JZ Toyota engine. There are plenty for sale in Bangkok. If you consider a 123 Body, you'll get maybe a nice one for arround 150'k. Buy it finish already. Save your self all the headache, because it's gonna be a project and maybe go on forever, specially the electric part of the job can be a pain in the .....a.... and in the end of the day it's gonna cost you much more than buying one wich is already done.

Have a look on www.taladrod.com/w/Search/CarDet.aspx?cib=260471 for an idea of what cars go for. I'm currently having a 2.5 Toyota JZ engine put into a 1974 Mercedes W115/4-8.

The engine and conversion is expected to cost around 50,000 baht.
