Kerryd Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Can someone tell me what the "official" dates for Songkran are this year ? I'd kinda like to experience it at least once Thanks
mypattaya Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Songkran in Pattaya is normally from 18th - 19th of April. Songkran in Bangkok, Chiangmai and most part of Thailand is from 13th-15th of April. SongKran The above link give you a brief idea about what normally goes on during songkran.
Rinrada Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 The water warriors use squirt guns, super soakers, hoses, buckets, garbage cans and anything else they can get their hands on in order to disperse their liquid ammunition. Drive-by squirtings everywhere. They have been known to use canal and ditch water but hey if you are wearing decent clothes and they decide to whack you dont forget "sanuk sanuk" as the honking smell lingers in your new fake armani suit. Couple of options of course ...you can either join in like a demented banshee, take their little squirt guns and stick them up their A+s+s,stay in your gaff for the week or Dont go to LOS during Son.K. Back to the old argument and I certainly think that the traditionial understanding and respect of the ceremony has been totally lost. I will not be visiting then.......or am I just a mis old git? What do you recon
davethailand Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I'm hiding this year, It'll be the 4th year and it's wearing off a bit (I don't mind one day of mayhem though)
tuky Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Thankfully I won't be around for this years soakran...
kurgen Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Pattaya's official Songkran dates are from April 7th until Maprachan Lake runs dry, ya jessies, be seeing ya
the scouser Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 I like to find myself a nice dry indoor seat with a good view of the soi and then watch the fights ensue between irritated farangs. Good entertainment value over a few cold ones. Scouse.
Humphrey Bear Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Don't forget, if you are out and about, to put all money and documents into a plastic bag that can be folded over several times. I'm usually out there with my seven-year-old, giving it and taking it with the best. And I caught a bucketful outside DaveThailand's place last year, so will be looking for revenge this time!

SEAtramp Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 See you in two weeks (if it stops snowing here) Weather might be a little better here in two weeks, hopefully.

I recommend Penang for a quiet civilized break and visa renewal. It's cheap to ride down there on the overnight train. It has bars, shopping, food, theatres, just not a big sex scene.
siriain69 Posted January 31, 2005 Posted January 31, 2005 Do bars and clubs close at all during Songkran - like for the King's birthday - or is it business as usual? On a similar note, do lots of the girls go home for the holiday, or are there too many tourists to miss out? Thanks for any info. Iain

Thanks for any info. Iain <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The bars and clubs will open as normal. However, be warned that this is the only time of year when beer is served at full strength because of the demand for water...
