Renting A Car With A Driver By The Day

In February and March I will be traveling around Isaan visiting small villages within a days distance from Cities like Khon Kaen and Surin.

Any thoughts on how much it will cost to hire a driver for the day with his own car?

Any ideas on a good place to find a reliable driver?

I have a similar need when I visit the family sometime in late Spring. My usual mode has been to rent a vehicle at the Udon airport, but this is really only a good idea if I'm going to be travelling most every day. Sometimes I think for the price I pay for the rentals, I could just buy Khun Paw an old beater truck. Anyway, my wife says a friend of the family in our village drives people around to make baht. She thinks 1K BHT/day would be about right. The drawback is that often times the person bringing you places has a say in duration of stay.

no idea what they take per day, but in the villages they take about 10bt/km, guess, if you want a deal for some time, can talk about daily price or for the period

I have yet to arrange transpo this way, so I'm flying a little blind. Would probably have to pay for gas and most certainly food for the driver. Vehicle is probably a car, no minivan. Overnights probably not possible. Probably all works out to be a little cheaper than what you do, but with the drawback of less seats and no overnights.

Hired a people carrier at ubon airport at New Year for 3 days with driver. 1000 baht a day + petrol. Driver slept in carrier overnight. Brand New Carrier, driver excellent.
