Could anyone in the know, please let me know the whereabouts of the best musical instrument shops in Pattaya, Sri Racha or Sattahip.

I'm aware of two. One near Big C in Pattaya Nua, and one in Tepassit, just over the street from the market.

Thanks!

Not wishing to hijack the thread but I need to acquire a set of drums that will be donated to a local charity so am equally interested in any responses.

Drum set can be second hand.

Tom can you give more specific direction as to location of shop near Big C in Pattaya Nua. Will check out Thepprasit as well.

whatchya lookin for?

I'm after a small valve combo, preferably hand wired. Back home (UK) I have a Laney Lionheart and it is streets ahead of anything mainstream, like Marshall. I think I may have to go into Bkk.

THE PLACE NEAR BIG C : It is (or maybe was, as I was there a year ago) up the small soi next to KFC that runs off of second road. It's a smallish place with mainly acoustic guitars and some electric.

Thats about the best one in town. give it a go.

i fell in love with a Laney after i borrowed a rig from my Iommi-wannabe-friend. this was after playing out of a Sovtek (59 Bassman) and an Orange. love the Laney.

As others mentioned, Suriya Music opposite Thepprasit Road is the best in town. However, if you are looking for something more evolved, Bangkok is your only option. Try Chinatown, about in the middle of Yqowarat Road explore the Sois on the right side of Yaowarat. There are lots of big music shops.

A friend of mine is selling this-

Fender Blues Jr Guitar Amp.

Blues style tube amp. All tube 15 watt combo amp with single 12" speaker. Very low hours. These list for $575 (about 21,000 baht) in the USA. Black. With cover. Price: 14,000 baht.

Also a Behringer GMX212 Guitar amp.

Last time I looked in the sukhumvit shop I thought they were dear, I'm currently after a digital 1channel mixing board so will go back and have a look.

Dave,

Cheers for that. Two questions:

Is your mate in Pattaya?

Does the Fender combo have a 'master volume', 'gain' (i.e. so it can be overdriven at low volume) and reverb? - I will check online in the meantime.

Tom.

For a good valve amp you'll probably have to go to BKK.. I just bought an Orange 'Tiny Terror' combo. Don't expect it to be cheap.. There are some secondhand places around Pantip or high end shops in Central World for new gear. I looked around in Pattaya and most places only have solid state combos or high output valve heads..

Mate of mine is selling a Fender Blues Junior.. It's in good condition and he's in Pattaya.

Yeah, I drawled all over that Laney half-stack but HECK!, what a price tag. 66k baht is way, WAY out of my league.

Defintitely the best shop in town though.

^^^Soundhouse has better prices and they can order anything. A trip to Bangkok is always more rewarding though, more choices, better prices, good second hand gear as well.

^^ Where abouts in town is 'Soundhouse'? (I don't recognise anywhere known as 'soi-town')

Also, what's the nearest BTS station to the music shops in Bangers Pluto?

Thanks!

^^^Soundhouse is in Soi town in town which is the soi on the right....just before foodland as you are going west(towards the beach) just before foodland on Central Pattaya road.

In Bangkok, in the Pratunam area on New petchaburi road, where Pantip Plaza is(they have a few shops Pantip but nothing special) as you pass Pantip there will be one shop on the left after 200 meters. On the otherside of the road, there will be Lucky music shop..marshall, martin, prs dealership. In the back of Lucky, there is a courtyard/carpark with Second music...second hand gear...fenders, gibsons, amps, basses, pedals, acoustics...depending on when you go, there are some true gems in there...There is also the Fender, Gibson dealership in Central world Plaza on 3rd floor, Music Concept. On Paya Thai road (walkable distance from Lucky/Second....just keep going until the intersection and turn left towards Mahboonkrong-Siam discovery) Music Society, they have good gear as well...it is an open air complex of Japanese style restaurants and pubs..COCO Walk...its in there on the left. If you are willing to be adventurous, sit in traffic and lose a day...or if you are going to make some big purchases..go to Chinatown..kasem road..the street has all the major wholesalers...Boosey&Hawkes is good, bought a lot of gear there...Petch siam was good as well..they are all on the same street.

There are other places but I have not been....basically just avoid the shops in the big malls...apart from Music concept in Central Plaza( they give you 15-20% off on a +/- reasonable price) great service as well.

Thanks for that Pluto. I will most certainly check out Soundhouse, but I'll shelve any plans on Bangkok until I have a special reason to go in. I'm not a big fan of the place really.
