Hi,

I'm heading to Samui at the end of April for two weeks. I am on my own so I'd like to stay close to the lively Chaweng strip to avoid taxi rides back and forth to the hotel (I don't drive mopeds).

I'm looking for some accomodation with double bed, AC and bathroom. Nothing fancy but clean and quiet. Of course in a guest friendly establisment. Price range 600-700 Bahts/night.

Can you please give me any suggestions? Any tips on anything are welcome. Also on where to go for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

(I can also consider renting a car, if worth it)

loads of places to go mate, just get there then find a place.

chaweng can be a bit noisy with the planes flying over but you dont really notice it (well i never,to busy i suppose).

i stayed at a place called 'island guest house'

clean tidy, aircon etc should be 1000 a night but tell them ya staying for a fortnight and you should get it for 700-800.

a very short walk to soi green mango and restuarents and bars at the end of the soi.

the guest house is half way along the rd to tesco lotus from chaweng.a bar called the paris is on the corner of the soi or try www.samui.sawadee.com.

I would book a couple of nights at Chaweng Gardens Beach Hotel, slap in the middle of town, on the beach, and fan rooms from 400bht should just about sqeeze your aircon requirement in for 700 bht but lots of choice for type of accommodation, probably do better to pay 800 baht for something just a little bit better.

email I believe is : [email protected]

From there you can scout out the other places along the beach I just stayed at Chawneg Gardens.

No problems with ladies , sometimes retain id card , quite normal.

Eating, cheapest and best if you like that kind of thing is thai food in the small cafes in Green Mangoe Complex opposite, 30 bht a shot or there is a european style breakfast at the entrance to Green Mango 99bht. Plenty of choice at reasonable prices.

You want more PM me.

OK, this is what I call useful info. This beats the crap out of any tourist guides that are supposed to be written by travellers.

Now I know where to go after I land at the airport. Thank you lads!

But then, where is Green Mango in the map of Chaweng Beach? North? Center? South?

P.S.

Do you live in Koh Samui?

Pricewise, this info is probably out of date. Most resorts have kept their prices up due to the diversion of tourists to the shores of Samui.

Chavin Condotel or Green Guest House may serve your needs.

Book in advance. No low season on Samui Island now.

If you stay on the North end of Chaweng you can have cheaper accomodation because the planes fly right over your roof. If you don't mind that, go for it.

If you want to be in Chaweng but a little bit away from the main party area and the plane noise, I can recommend "Charley's Hut" more towards the south.

They don't take bookings, so you just have to check if they have bungalows available when you get there. At the end of April an AC bungalow with beach views (beautiful garden!!!) should be less than 700 Bhat. Right opposte is a popular and inexpensive restaurant "Ninja Crepes" which does delicious but no-nonsense Thai and western food. They are open 24 hrs. so you can always get a midnight snack after dancing the night away.

A little inaccurate... The aeroplanes fly over the central area, not the north. The central area being around the Burger King restaurant.

At Samui International "Airhut" avoid the guys touting for taxi's that drag you towards mini vans. these guy take the pi55!. they get 5 or 6 people in the van and then charge each person 200 baht each to go central chaweng. they get 1200 baht for 8 mile round trip. they should be shot!

find a yellow taxi and insist that they use the meter, if they dont have a meter agree the price to chaweng fist. pay no more that 150. aim for 100 if u can.

Green mango is central chaweng
