Noticing More Masks In Town

Featured Replies

I saw several more people wearing masks in town today. Some people were on bikes. Others were walking the street.

Has there been enough concern over the H1N1 (swine) flu to start considering wearing a mask? I think the recommendation is to stay at least 2 meters (6 feet) from people. Of course it can be airborne so not sure how to avoid it in that case. I bought some hand sanitizer and use it after going to public places like the food centers.

From the BBC website:

* Wash your hands regularly

* Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze

* Use tissues and dispose of them carefully

* Clean hard surfaces regularly with a standard cleaning fluid

* Avoid close contact with people who have fever and a cough

* The effectiveness of wearing a face mask in preventing transmission of the flu virus isn’t yet clear, although it may give some protection to those people such as health professionals who work closely with someone with symptoms of flu.

I am curious how the mask will stop an airborne virus. :) Were the virus in a water droplet it might help but if it is out there on it's own, you got no chance.

Oh! It's time for yet another vacuous thread on swine flu related stuff.
