Does Anyone Know If Left Baggage Is Scanned By X-rays In The Depository.

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the left baggage facility at Suvarnabhumi Airport x-rays, or inspects (rummages through) the contents prior to accepting luggage?

I want to leave some items (of no real value) which are on their Not Accepted list inside my case.

NO jewelry, watches, antiques, gold, cash, credit cards, perishable goods, fragile articles, electric appliances, mobile phone, shaver, CD player, MP3 player, portable computer, camera (film or digital) or VDO camera accepted.

Many Thanks

They will want you to open your bags so they can inspect the contents prior to accepting the bag.

Never happen to me. (inspections, x-ray etc)

HAPPEN TO ME ALLEADY!!

Upon arrival from LAX not too long ago. I left a bag there as I had a 12 hour layover for a domestic flight. My bag was xrayed. I came back 10 hours later. I picked up my bag. It was xrayed again. I opened it a bit later that day and things were missing. This was not done on the plane as I took it hand luggage. I opened it when I got home. The following items important to me were missing, a 2 month supply of 2 types of Diabetes medicine and some other blood pressure medicine. A bag of special food from the States. Some clothes as well like tshirts from the States I had as presents for kids.

Upon seeing that I was furious. The medicine was expensive and one type at that time was unavailable here. I started the next day with complaints. My main one was to Thai Air as I was a Star Alliance Gold member of ROP for 14 years. I also complained to the company that runs this facility, the Airport Authority of Thailand and others. No one replied except Thai air who after my third complaint gave me a case number and told me the company running the facility would call me. No one ever called and no one ever knew anything about the case number at Thai when I eventually phoned. I expected that.

I had mentioned in my letters and email that the bags were xrayed by very surly staff upon delivery as well as pick up and asked why was that done on pick up. I then mentioned I thought it was to scare people into thinking that their things were safe in there. A smoke screen to their real activities. I also mentioned that the fact no one could see what went on in there as there was a wooden wall around the area inside next to the xray machine. I pointed out that in most airports in fact all i have been to all over the world with similar facilities that you could see what was done to your bag and in most cases see your bag. I listed no less than 15 airports like that and asked for an explanation as to why they did not have it like that here. The thing I mentioned in the complaints to everyone was that if they did this: took things out then why not put something in. That in these days of high security this was a major consideration and that if they did that you could be arrested 5 minutes later by someone with contraband and they would all reap a large financial reward. This is a major point to consider.

In one reply I had from Thai they said the company was reviewing their security tapes. Well they have now been reviewing them a long time I think. If they say they do indeed have cameras I am sure you know this is Thailand and they can arrange things any way they like or they are broken all the time. We can do nothing they know that as no one cares if you are robbed and you are wrong for daring to complain about any Thais actions in any case.

So be warned. I HAPPEN ALLLEADY. The staff were so rude to the extent that it almost put me off putting it in there. The fact that it cost a few hundred baht for not even a day and they steal as much as they can is disgusting. Do not leave anything you want to keep there ever. there have been other postings similar to this in the past also. look back in time on this forum and get good advice not 2 word answers. There are several storage facilities in Bangkok. I believe one is near the Emporium in Bangkok. Buy the best locks that you can find the best suitcase and pray if you dare to use their facility. Remember also foreigners are forbidden from complaining if they rob you. You should have never come and you are causing trouble for Thai people they will say!!

Yes, they definitely do x-ray the bags before accepting them, i had left a mobile phone in my suitcase when i was leaving one there before which they saw on the machine and asked me to remove it from the bag.

Sorry to read your account of pilferage redhat99.

I asked, as I plan to fly down early for a later flight. Then intended going into central BKK (WTC) for some last minute shopping, by bus. So wanted to do it without the cabin baggage, looks like I will need to take it and possibly leave it in Big C, Ratachamari. For a couple of hours were it should be safer.
