hi, i want to know if anyone can recommend a decent studio flat/house/condo anything that has its own kitchen and bathroom for under 5-10,000 bahts a month, (IF CHEAPER THE BETTTER) somewhere near lamai if possible. ive spend hours looking for letting agents but they only offer expensive luxury villas.

am thinking of spending a year in ko samui to learn muay thai, does anyone have any experience witht he lamai beach camp? or can anyone recommend me any good camps, in thailand?

and also am a student from the UK would there be any chance i maybe can find a part time job in ko samui? anything considered jus to keep me going for the duration of my stay.

thanx in advance.

Just book a bungalow in lamai from the internet for a few days when you arrive then when you arrive lok around Lamai & behind the temple & in the mountain near the exit to Lamai, there are plenty of cheap houses to rent, no real condos, samui isn't pattaya or phuket, there are building resrictions, but for 5-6k a month you can have a 2 bed house behind Lamai temple on the ring road, or for around the same a large stidio with onsuite bathroom in Lamai. Not many places come with kitchens but then it's so cheap to eat out that no one bothes to cook anyway.

About getting a job, you need a work permit to do anykind of work in Thailand, so no, you wont be able to get a part time job as WP's are expensive & a hassle for employers to get.

Lamai Muay Thai gm is always popular & attracts many westerners wanting to learn or improve their skills. I have heard the trainers are very good so it should be just what your looking for.

Depending on the time you arrive in Lamai you even don't have to book a bungalow for the first few days. Only in high season you can have trouble finding a place. But the rest of the time it is very easy to find accomodation.

The gym you are talking about is owned by Stephan Fox (the Vice President of the WMC) as far as I know, and I hear very good (my husband is an ex champ) there is also another Gym (Pinyo Gym) in North Lamai near the Spa Resort which seems very popular at the moment, it's much smaller and only been around for about a year. In my experience it would be hard getting a 2 bed bungalow for less than 7-8k baht.

G'luck!

HI, thanx again for help, just one question, do you think il be able to get a part time teaching job in ko samui? ( how much of a difference will a tesl/tefl certificate make?

if so do you know roughly how much i can earn part time? in ko samui?

best regards

iky you will need the certificate, but also bear in mind that samui is a small place so i think finding a teaching job let alone a part time one will be difficult.also you will need a work permit for ANY work in thailand.

what visa are you getting for your stay.

is it tourist visa or business how long for you do know that if you come on a 30 day visa you need to leave the country every 30 days.

good luck allan

You'll get no work on Samui. There just is not any, apart from perhaps in the hotel or restaurant business, if you are VERY lucky. I wouldn't stay too long on Samui - it's a dog-hole after you've been there a bit.

doghole, lol, thanx alot for the info, well am planning on stayin in sumai for about 8-10 months, i wanna train at that wmc muay thai camp thats way, i think il have to try getting a job at surat thani, as ive heard they have more jobs there, and ferry it bak to sumai every day or so.

am plannin on getting a 2 month visa and then somehow get a job in any school that will also get me a work permit and a visa, but i heard alot of schools just lie because they cant be bothered to go through the entire process of getting their employee a work visa or permit.

u think it would be better to move to bangkok for 10 months and train muay thai there as i will have a better chance of getting a job there?
