Settlement Visa - Student Loan As An Income?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Currently waiting for my boyfriend to arrive in the Uk for the first time on a visitor visa. Whilst I have been in the Uk the last few months I've been looking into applying to university.

If i did decide to go to university in the UK we would need to apply for a settlement visa (unmarried partner).I think we tick all the right boxes for eligiblity for this type of visa but my only concern is that I would obviously be relying on student loans as my main source of income( but also have a part time job aswell) if I were to attend a university course. Would the embassy accept this as a reliable income?

Any help appreciated.

The requirement is that you can support and accommodate yourselves without recourse to public funds. If your student loan plus any income from any work you may do means that you can do this then you will be OK. Your boyfriend will be able to work, so they can take his job prospects and likely income into account as well.

Although the UK resident sponsor may claim any public funds they may be entitled to, they cannot claim any extra funds due to the arrival of their partner.

See Maintenance and accommodation.
