Renewing Alien Registration

Recommended Posts

I have held Thai residency for 14 years. Every 5 years I need to go to ampur Police to rebew alien registration, providing a new photo. Have =done this at Banglamung (Pattaya) up to now - no problem.

Recently moved to Isaan, Went to local police to register new address. Theu knew nothing about it, but eventually agreed to write new address in book and sign it.

Shortly I will need to provide a new photo. The local police have no forms, and know nothing. I must have a correct alien reg if I wish to leave Thailand.

Any advice as to how I can renew my registratuon

Many thanks

What don't you have someone from the local immigration department speak to the police and tell them what they need to do? It is possible that they may not have encountered an alien such as yourself before, and may need some assistance.

This is a very common problem in police stations without much if any experience of permanent residence requirements. In practice this means expressions of puzzlement except in the main foreigner areas -Bangkok,Chiangmai,Hua Hin,Pattaya etc.A friend of mine who lives near Chumporn simply argued the way through himself though it took a long time -and he speaks excelent Thai.My local station is Thonglor so no problems there, although only have had PR recently so have registered but not renewed.Back to your situation if you don't want to do it solo, could you explain situation to local lawyer and then ask him to accompany you? But the law is on your side and you obviously shouldn't even contemplate a financial inducement. Its really just one of those frustrating things but no big deal.Good luck.
