Am I The Only Farang Ever To Order Toast In Loei

Went to the BanThai Restaurant in Loei often frequented by many of us, to have a quick breakfast yesterday.

I think the restaurant is owned or managed by a Farang, of course (I imagine) with a Thai connection.

The menu is quite comprehensive comprising many traditional foreign choices, including American Breakfast.

Have eaten their often and it is very good.

But! do you think I could order a few pieces of TOAST.

No, even with Thai wife present we could not get the message across.

Supply of bread wasn't a problem, just the fact that I wanted the great bread toasted.

Anyway problem fixed, after three trips backward and forward, (first time with the bread just warmed up a bit), to the desk at the back of shop CONTAINING A TOASTER, I finally got my toast.

This is a light hearted post, but if any of you guys in Loei know the owner, could you tell him to teach the girls about TOAST!!! :D

I didn't even have my Vegemite with me. :)

Add 'ping' to the end of 'kanom pung' and they should now what you want.

I used to have a similar problem where my 'toast' was done on a Teflon Electric Frypan.

I've since given up toast for breakfast. As for Vegemite, I have get my vitamin B's from other sources.

I'm not a 'happy little vegemite' anymore. :)

Just need to go through the routine that Jack Nickelson used in the movie FIVE EASY PIECES, order a toasted cheese sandwich and "hold the cheese,"

nothing surprises me about thailand.I really don't understand, they have farang owned restaurants but they don't know anything about western food

But this restaurant DOES know a lot about Western Food, they have many great choices on the menu.

..............It's just that the owner hasn't shown the girls what the toaster is for, hope they don't think it's a hand dryer!

One of the comments made to my TW when she tried to explain what I wanted was.................Oh, but won't that make the bread a bit harder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most often in Thai establishments I see toast cooked on one side only - and that is normally only very slightly brown, just warmed up a bit really. Also I have had comments about dark brown toast being bad for you.

^^ who said anything about Ubon?

fishooks was just noticing that I was from Ubon. :) I've only ever been served fried bread as 'toast'... tastes fine to me. If you think about it, it is kinda weird we westerners have a single rather sizable appliance for this one task.
