fiddlehead Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Using Google Earth a lot to plan my treks around the island, i noticed today that we've finally been updated. I am guessing in the last week although not sure when i concentrated on the southern area which is easily noticeable because it was quite cloudy the day they chose the image. It seems it the shot is less than 6 months old IMO. Can anyone help try to pinpoint the exact date when this latest version was taken?
LivinginKata Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Looking at various construction projects I would estimate this version of Phuket Island is about 3 months old. I doubt less than 3 months.

I doubt less than 3 months. 3 months is Great! I think the old one was at least 3 years old and maybe 5. But that cloud is almost centered over my house. But thanks Google.
LeungKen Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Fiddlehead, did you have to download a new version as I'm still seeing 5 y.o. images of around airport/naiyang/sakoo ?
LivinginKata Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 3 months is Great!I think the old one was at least 3 years old and maybe 5. The previous one was about 3.5 years old (from my own construction works).
LivinLOS Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Think its around Dec 08.. Can see the rubble and landslide of my old villa..
fiddlehead Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 I did download version 5.0 about 3 months ago. I see the version came out in May. It wouldn't hurt to upgrade of course. I just looked at our place up in Issan and it looks like that's been updated also. Maybe it's all of Thailand??? anyone can confirm?
LivinginKata Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Think its around Dec 08.. Can see the rubble and landslide of my old villa.. Don't think so. I can see projects in my neighbourhood that started after March 2009.
robertsonmartin Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 From looking at Kathu the map is definately newer than before (my house wasn't on the older map). The new map now shows my house but not the swimming pool, so the map is pre-February / March. Edit - The date of the imagery is shown in the bottom left corner of the map. The image of my map says 13 December 2008. Pretty conclusive evidence.
Colonel_Mustard Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I've just downloaded Google Earth on my Mac and the imagery is dated 2004 still.
Zpete Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I've just downloaded Google Earth on my Mac and the imagery is dated 2004 still. Dunno wot mine is, gunna go update.

LeungKen Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I've just finished downloading version 5 and its still showing old images for my area.
Zpete Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I've just downloaded Google Earth on my Mac and the imagery is dated 2004 still. Dunno wot mine is, gunna go update. Mine says recently updated for Phuket, Thailand. Musta bin auto update.
steelepulse Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 When I view Phuket, the initial date says Jan, 2004, but upon zooming in the Dec 13, 2008 appears.
Somtamnication Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Some of the imagery is still a bit old. The tesco by villa 3 is not yet built and the imagery is dated January 2008. So it depends where you zoom, being a tiled map shows that each tile has a different date.
robertsonmartin Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I can't see that on my version ??? Zoom a little closer in. The date of the section should show up.
Zpete Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Zoom a little closer in. The date of the section should show up. All mine has is 3 rows of text, all say 2009 and the version or sumfin.
Old Croc Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 All mine has is 3 rows of text, all say 2009 and the version or sumfin. The date of the tile is under the scale, bottom left. You have to enable the status bar to see it (View), and zoom in to an altitude under about 7 kms. Updates can be found under Help/ Updates on Line.
Ping Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I get the updated view. Big improvement (all the new building on Phang Muang Road [the newish road behind Jung Ceylon] is shown), but the image quality is not all that flash.
Atmos Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I get the updated view. Big improvement (all the new building on Phang Muang Road [the newish road behind Jung Ceylon] is shown), but the image quality is not all that flash. I exist. Or at least the house does on this update, interesting how much the local landscape has changed in just a few years, as housing spreads more onto Big Buddha hill, right now can hear chainsaws as more trees go, my desire to be a part-time hermit is becoming more difficult as the isolation factor decreases every day. Had a look at my old place in Wellington NZ - also a recent update, date shown as March 2 2009; better resolution than last time, or maybe it was just a clearer day.
phuketrex Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I'm still on the old version where you can see a lot of the tsunami destruction especially up round Khao Lak.
LanProject Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Hey you can check the date of each area!!!! Chalong is 13 decembre 08 .... Look at the bottom left..... It's show the date of each pictures following your mouse!
Ping Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 It's got a timeline feature - maybe those getting the old view need to fiddle with that?
