Can anybody give me some details/ info on changing the wife's passport so it carry's my second name?, She's already legally changed her surname to mine so i was wondering what we need to take to BKK.

Is the office still at The Asia centre Bang Na?

Thanks in advance.

DT :o

Dave,

Just to make sure that you don't need to make multiple trips I'd take whatever you can think of; i.e. your wife's tabian bahn, ID card and marriage certificate. Your passport will come in handy too so that they can see how to spell your name. Don't quote me on this one, but I think there's a passport office in Central centre Bang Na or the Thai Min. of Foreign Affairs in Chaeng Wattana (the same place where affirmations of freedom to marry are authenticated.)

Cheers,

Scouse.

Dave, Do you specifically need to change it for any reason.I've been married for 4 years, live in Thailand and regularly commute to UK.Never had reason to change it as long as tickets booked in name on passport. Will simply renew it on expiry in new name.

I agree. Is there a worthwhile reason Dave ?

I guess not really but as her ID card is now my surname does'nt she have to change it? :o

Although the new laws no longer require her taking your name after marriage most will still do so and it should also be changed to Mrs. - and it should be the same as her ID card (you may find it is required to obtain receipts in English from government run hospitals - they require passport for making English translation of name). There are also less questions asked in international travel if she has a western name and your name just happens to be the same. :o

Thats what i figured, She has legally changed everything to my surname and only has her passport is left to change.

I'm stuffed anyway if she divorce's me so it can't be any worse. :o

I also wanted to do to make things easier for when we go to the UK for hoildays, (planning to take her to France, Italy etc). :D

Just want to make sure you know this, Dave, so please forgive me if you already do.

As the UK is not signed up to the Schengen agreement, having a UK visa in her passport will not allow her to visit the countries you have mentioned, no matter what name she is using. She will still need to apply for a Schengen visa to visit any of the Schengen states. She will need to do this in Thailand, and should apply to the embassy of the first country you are visiting. The visa will then allow her to visit the other Schengen states as well.

Eurovisa explains the Schengen visa very well, though it is aimed at the USA, the rules are the same for Thais.

Cheers anyway.

I also wanted the name change so it would assist the schengen visa. :D
