First time to both cities.

Any suggestions of nice cafe locations on either side of the creek?

Vientiane side: Bo Pen Nyang Bar, great sunsets from 3rd floor. Sunset Bar, as the name says, but any night but Friday when it is overloaed with the NGO set, and in danger of capsizing; just about any of the mom and pop set ups along the river will do for watching the world go by.

Nong Khai side: Mut Mee Guest House, apart from the New Age set who seem to be doing anything but watch the world go by. 2nd floor veranda of the Khiang Khong Guest House, order a beer from downstairs fridge. Brendan and Noi's Bar, where Brendan surely has seen the world go by.

Better come to NK now. Naga festival. Starts now. The promenade full with shops and bars and may be chestnuts.... A kind of funfair too. All hotels full......will be hard to find a room. Glad I live here and have a house......
