I believe that you will find the passport office translation of names is regarded as the official word. Whenever we have had a question the passport has been required for the official English translation (even when they contain 3 different spellings in English for same Thai family name). :o

Don't make things harder is a key thing to remember and that all problems have answers is another. You know they did it right so why do you want them to do it wrong? Your name is not Maki but Maeki when we use 26 letter English keyboards from my understanding (going back to an old girlfriend who had this problem).
