The Bedlam Movie Quiz.

Featured Replies

Well it's a quiet Sunday afternoon and if you have little better to do have a stab at identifying the movies contained within the 4 minutes of video attached to this post. As in my previous theme music quiz, I hope I have been a little cryptic so although there are some really easy ones, for some movies I have taken clips from obsure sections.

Sorry for the quaility is some places, it was a compromise between file size, resolution and redoing the sound again and again. This project has sat on my computer for over a month now, but a late night of beers talking about much loved movies the other night has encouraged me to just submit it as is.

As ever, extra points available if you get them all (!) and see the covert clues.

Good luck.

Do I get any points for "One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest" toward the end ?................ :)

...and an extra two bonus points for being the first responder. (Who was that fresh faced young actor ?)

I would give it a go except it won't download for me....I get just the machine code like Zpete got for a recent offering of Soundman's (I think it was Soundman).

I got the sound file..... I've picked one definite (L,S,aTSB) and a couple of "maybes" (AN, RE) and a wild guess or two (CR or OMatS).

I won't spoil it for others so just initials for now. :)

It's not L,S,aTSB....same genre, with a young Brad Pitt....title, "S".

Nice one Cuban! thanks.

*spoiIer coming up*

3rd: ??? Hamburger HiII??

4th: again "???" :D

5th: and another "???" @!!

6th: The WaII.

7th: Aff titIe isnt coming to me, but its the one where ice covers Washington DC.

8th: Fit Pitts "Fight CIub"

9th: SoiIent Green? (Or pIanet of the Apes)

10th: Ieon

11th: ???

12th/13th: ??? hmm...famiIiar famiIiar, but cant quite pIace it...

14th: CIockwork Orange

15th: ???

Doing well Eek:

1st one: not sure..is it the Burt Iancaster where he gets shipwrecked with the woman?

2nd (at Ieast i think its the 2nd): WeII..thats another fine mess youve got me into, because i have no idea what the titIe is!

(Not the 2nd but the fifth clip, hope the hint helps :) !)

3rd: ??? Hamburger HiII??

4th: again "???"

5th: and another "???" @!!

6th: The WaII. One point. :D

7th: Aff titIe isnt coming to me, but its the one where ice covers Washington DC. Getting there....

8th: Fit Pitts "Fight CIub" Another well earned point :D

9th: SoiIent Green? (Or pIanet of the Apes) ....almost - what was the third movie in that apocalypse trilogy?

10th: Ieon Third point takes you into the lead with three.

11th: ???

12th/13th: ??? hmm...famiIiar famiIiar, but cant quite pIace it...

Harcourt:

AN = probably right, be brave commit to a title.

Don't read on guessers........my answers below.

AN = Apocalypse Now. And S = Snatch.

7th: The Day After Tomorrow!

9th: Escape from the Planet of the Apes ?

> AN = Apocalypse Now. And S = Snatch.

Two points there :)

> 7th: The Day After Tomorrow!

Doing well Eek, but I'll give a bigger clue, that was in fact clip 10.

-----------------------------------------Refreshed Quiz Clips----------------------------------------------

I'm sorry so many have had trouble getting the clips to play, I had tried to compress the file to a reasonable size and in a format that most could play, I was under the impression AVI format was a winner, but alas. I have tried to attach better resolution files in this post - but the limitations of the TV Forum software does not let me.

I have split the compilation into two parts each just under 10 Meg in size. These are in WMV format and at a higher resolution, so should play on most 'standard' players that come with Windows OS out of the box, also it is a bit easier to see what was probably too cryptic in low resolution video. Apologies to all - please award yourself three bonus points.

So Eek is in the lead now with 7.

The two parts should be able to be viewed or downloaded from here:-

Not sure how long it will be before/if those files get taken down - if they do I'll try another site.

The links above are good for ten downloads - after that I'll need to refresh them.

.WMV video with sound format - 480x320 pixels - just under two minutes long each about 9.5 & 9.7 Meg

A-ha; another good Cuban quiz! :)

Unfortunately, I'm not really equal to the task, I'm afraid. I spotted:

From Here to Eternity (I think)

Apocalypse Now

Delicatessan

The Omega Man

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Dune?

The Man in the White Suit?

Er, that's it.

Btw, loaded and played fine for me. :D

Great idea; must've taken ages to put together.

I think Eek is the winner.

Well done Mick for spotting Dune and the Man In The White Suit.

The Answers:

============================================================

Extra information taken From Wikipedia & imdb.com

1 - The Simpsons.

I like those 20th Century Fox movies that play with the opening credits, even with the low resolution I hope that Ralf Wiggum's distinctive voice was enough of a clue.

2 - 2001: A Space Odyssey. (1968)

MGM's Leo The Lion was revamped in 1968 with a new logo, dubbed The Stylised Lion. This particular logo was very short-lived, and somewhat unpopular; the still-frame image (with no roar) was seen on only three MGM films, 'Grand Prix' (1966), 'The Subject Was Roses' (1968), and '2001: A Space Odyssey' (1968) before the company reverted to the original logo. 2001 was the only one of the three with that distintive sustained double low 'C' opening note, I thought it was a give away.

3 - Grease. (1978)

Any of the singing sections from this movie would make it a simple one to identify, but the opening moments I hoped would be difficult, no one got it :)

4 - Jaws. (1975)

I choose this scene for two reasons, first for the line "..get into the water." and for the continuity error: The sunrise appears in two places at the same time.

5 - Laurel And Hardy - Towed In A Hole. (1932) (Colorized version 1991)

A personal favourite of mine.

6 - Apocalypse Now.

This clip is moments just after the oft repeated quote....

7 - Delicatessen.

Hopefully a less remembered clip from a movie full of many memorable scenes.

8 - The Machinist.

Maybe a less well known title, and a movie I missed out on before seeing it just a year ago.

9 - Pink Floyd - The Wall.

Easy one if you listen to the sound track.

10 - The Day After Tomorrow.

Should be an easy clip to get, but I wanted to use this section to lead into the next clip...

11 - Flight Club.

...the seating color and layout along with the impact edits nicely between these two movies' in-flight sequences.

12 - The Omega Man. (1971) Featuring Woodstock. (1970)

I wondered if people would get the movie clip within a movie clip?

14 - Le้on. (1994) Featuring Singin' In The Rain. (1952)

And the same again with another man in a movie threater.

16 - I Am Legend. (2007) Featuring Shrek. (2001)

...and maybe a third time as well with a film that was a remake of The Omega Man.

18 - Lucky Number Sleven.

Just for the lovely digital pan & zoom between the two windows.

19 - Snatch.

For the 'cut up the body' monologue.

20 - A Clockwork Orange.

Sadly my 'clue' to one of the first clips was lost during the resizing of this clip, displayed on the front of the record shop is the sound track album for "2001: A Space Odyssey."

21 - One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.

Again a classic movie that I hoped was a difficult clip to nail down, as it was the first right answer I was wrong.

22 - Dune.

With Thai dialogue, I has hoped that some might only connect Patrick Stewart with Star Trek.

23 - Paycheck.

I thought the question mark was a good ending to this quiz.

24 - The Man In The White Suit.

I was looking for a clever ending to mirror the opening clip, but found this old British Movie that is known for it's particular soundtrack that played over the end titles.

I think Eek is the winner.

Well done Mick for spotting Dune and the Man In The White Suit.

Cracking quiz, Cuban. Looking forward to Mk II.

BTW, no-one else got "Delicatessan" or "Omega Man" either... :)

(Well, if you don't blow your own trumpet, someone else'll use it as a spitoon)

Kicking myself on some of those!!

In the mood for making another one cuban? :)

In the mood for making another one cuban? :)

Funny you should ask, it has been pointed out there has been something of an American bias in both this and the earlier sound clips quiz, if my computer is willing and I have a good connection over the weekend you should be able to see a TV-TV quiz here by Saturday afternoon.

Thanks.
