We are a senior couple going to visit Bangkok in late February 2010. I have been there before briefly. I stayed at the Asia hotel which was extremely convenient. I liked being able to walk out and eat in the street stalls every evening, the connection to the Sky Train. However, it was very "elderly" and there was no internet/wifi in the room. One had to leave the hotel for this. So we are looking for something similar. Tourist sights, (forget the clubs and strip bars) :) , food, is what we would like. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi tedster, I've just been on the Asia Hotel website (click here) and I notice that they do now have a 'internet corner' within the Hotel. So although it's not in the room, you wouldn't now have to leave the Hotel for this.

I also noticed on their website that they have some promotions running through till the end of March. As it's a Hotel in a location you already know I thought that it might be worth you taking a second look.

A couple of other Hotels I can think of with Sky train stations very close by are InterContinental Hotel, Sheration Grande, but these will be much more expensive than the Asia Hotel.

I'm sure others will be able to chime in with more suggestions.

Hey there, have you tried the mini hotel? http://www.theminihotel.com/ I seen the one in Ratchada, really near a pizza place, and near 7-11, near a medium sized food stands area, not the typical farang part of Bkk but it's still nice :)

just a thought

has free wifi, but not sure if have in room, i know the pizza place and the hotel lobby have free wifi, not sure bout the room tho, should check the website and give them a call or i can for you if you like :D

I would always recommend the Manhattan Hotel, Sukumvit Soi 15.

Very good value for a medium+ hotel. Quiet and respectable.

Convenient and with wi-fi, you buy this.

Book thru AsiaRooms very much cheaper than dealing directly with hotel.

Have a look at Baan Sukhumvit Hotels www.baansukhumvit.com they've got two hotels on Soi 18 and 20 right next to some great Thai food cafes also free internet in the rooms and a couple of minutes walk to Asok skytain.

Thanks all, these all look pretty good and not too expensive. I am not at all familiar with the "locations" though. We are big walkers, but not shoppers. We want to be near the "old Bangkok" i.e. the temples, palaces etc. Also street life, markets, food stalls are big with us. Not so much glitzy restaurants. We are seniors, with limited incomes. :) So of all of these, which ones fit the bill? Re Asia, I thought about going back to the Asia, but as I recall, their internet corner was very small, and very expensive. I did go across the street to a pharmacy where they had cheap PC terminals, but no wifi. (IIRC) Tedster BTW, what is the weather like in late February?

The President Park at Sukhumvit 15 is a nice hotel, conveniently located close to the skytrain. Checked on Expedia and prices going for $45 right now. There are cheaper places in the area available although if you want to be close to the sightseeing areas in Bangkok, you might want to stay closer to the Banglamphu area. Lots of hotels there available at low prices. Check out the Phranakorn Nornlen Hotel, or the Lamphu Tree House.
