Getting Rid Of Mould On Walls In The House.

Does anyone know how to get rid of mould on walls?

I have ripped off the wallpaper twice and it keeps coming back. I've finally, I think, sorted out the cracks where the water was coming in so now I just need to get rid of the mould and re-wallpaper, for the 3rd time ! What do I need to use to get the mould off as it is impossible to scrape off.

Thanks for any advice.

You need to dry out the walls with either a heater or a dehumidifier before re papering. The mould is actually the damp patches :) Also it may pay to seal the wall with a concrete sealant before papering as well to stop any future damp.

So if I dry out the wall the mould will dissapear ?

If this is the case, does anyone know of a handyman they can recommend to do the concrete sealant?

Thanks again.

dry the wall with some paper. fill a spray bottle with 1/2 bleach and 1/2 water, add a bit of liquid dishwasher detergent and spray on wall [detergent help it stick], leave for 15 minutes and then wash off with half bleach half water till gone. very easy. green mold harmless other than allergies, black mold bad so dont breathe in dry mold, but bleach will kill all for good unless your wall keeps leaking

There is a product called Acticide which is added to paint to inhibit the growth of mould, if you can get to a paint factory they may sell you some. there are different types but the paint people could advise. The best one is Acticide EEA I think is its name.

Do the bleach treatment first

Mix in warm water and apply liberally so the mix goes into the surface......allow to dry before applying wallpaper.

Totaly agree with the bleach treatment suggestion, this will kill off the exsisting mould spores and retard further growth. Sealing the walls with a diluted PVA adhesive mix will also help combat it's return. if it is black mold, the most common cause is poor air circulation in the room and difference in exterior/exterior wall temperatures (sun on exterior wall/aircon on in room) just make sure you follow the treatment suggested, have a good air flow around the room and you should have no further problems.

We have a couple of wallpapered rooms in our house, we asked the landlord if we could take it off and paint them instead, he said NO.... ah well...i love painted walls and would love to go crazy with colour in our house, but our LL (who is actually wonderful by the way) won't let us do more than pale yellow ...

For me the best solution and which may work for anyone was the ClO2(chlorine Dioxide), is available in Thailand from couple of companies in gas form. In the US they do have also a solid form which you'll have to mix with hot water and live it in the room for 12h, next thing you know no more mold and bad smell.

I'm just fumigating a clients house today using the services of Thai Bio Oxzine Co.,Ltd., they got a team which comes in and the use this ClO2 gas in all house, 2h later you can go in and all things are gone, much faster and better than the solid form.

If need details PM me, got tel and address for them.

I once painted straight over the wallpaper. You could still see the embossed pattern, but the color was much better.
